Established
A program to provide tutoring
s e r v i c e s for children and teenagers
in Clinton and Lycoming Counties
has been established by representatives of schools, c h u r c h e s , and
community agencies in the two
counties, in cooperation with Lock
Haven State College.
The community groups wjtf
identify
youngsters
who
need
a s s i s t a n c e with their studies and
the college will provide the tutors,
consisting of students presently
preparing to be junior and senior
liigh school t e a c h e r s . Interested
laymen will a l s o serve either as
tutors or as administrators in a
consnunity's program. The tutoring
will take place off of school property, in church facilities and in
church facilities and in community
agencies such as the YW and YMCA.
CoordinatCTS of the program
are Stephen Hockley, executive
director of the Lycoming-Clinton
Counties Cofflfflission
for Community Action in Williamsport, and
Dr. Francis Colabrese, director of
secondary
education
at
LHS.
Hockley will coordinate the community efforts while Dr. Colabrese
will administer the s e l e c t i o n and
guidance of the student tutors.
These coordinators plan to begin
operation of the program by February 1971. Efforts are being made
to secure f e d e r a l funds for transportation of the tutors and the
pupils.

Stephen Jacobs was graduated
from Lansford High School in 1925
and from Muhlenberg College in
1929. He received his master's degree from the Penn State University
in 1951.
For 24 years, he was a very
successful high school coach. At
Tyrone High School from 1938 to
1953, he ^jroduced several undefeated football teams. He served in
the U.S. Navy during World War II
and coached outstanding sports
teams.
Jacobs came to LHS in 1953
and was appointed athletic director
in 1956. He a l s o served a s football
line coach for 15 years and head
freshman football coach for two
y e a r s . From 1955 through 1960, he
a l s o served a s head track c o a c h .
His 1956 team produced an outstanding 5-1 record.
During J a c o b s ' long tenure as
director of a t h l e t i c s , LHS has gained a national reputation for developing outstanding sports teams,
a t h l e t e s , physical education teachers and c o a c h e s .

Stephen Jacobs was graduated
from Lansford High School in 1925
and from Muhlenberg College in
1929. He received his master's degree from the Penn State University
in 1951.
For 24 years, he was a very
successful high school coach. At
Tyrone High School from 1938 to
1953, he ^jroduced several undefeated football teams. He served in
the U.S. Navy during World War II
and coached outstanding sports
teams.
Jacobs came to LHS in 1953
and was appointed athletic director
in 1956. He a l s o served a s football
line coach for 15 years and head
freshman football coach for two
y e a r s . From 1955 through 1960, he
a l s o served a s head track c o a c h .
His 1956 team produced an outstanding 5-1 record.

director of a t h l e t i c s , LHS has gained a national reputation for developing outstanding sports teams,
