LOCK NAVIN STATI COLLICi

Moiv Sept. 22, 1969

Dr. Parsons

YOU HAVE HURT US DEEPLY
Referring to Friday afternoon's 'bitch-in'
LHS President Richard T. Parsons has made
the following statements in the Lock Haven
Express (statements which he verified yesterday afternoon as being accurate):
"(It was) a small group trying to disrupt
things for the saice of disruption."
" T h e y (the student participants) are ruining
the climate at Lock Haven State. They have
no program. They're j u s t trying to follow the
students at Berkeley and at Columbia. They
ON APATHY:..."! just want to say that I've been one of those think this is the thing to do these d a y s . "
" I really don't expect any destruction of proapathetic students for the last three years. I'm a senior this year, and
I would like to apologize to Walt McCallum and the Students for perty or breaicing of the law. These kids are
Students government. And I would like to tell Mike McLaughlin that too smart for that. But I want to emphasize
this last year on campus I'm going to try to make up for all the that we have set up means to deal with offenapathy that I've poured on everybody,., and I'm going to try, as best d e r s , if there is any trouble. We can call the
as I can, to help Mike McLaughlin and his government do the best state police and get an injunction immediately.
they can for us, the students." — Reba Shiffler.
Then, there could be a r r e s t s . "
He further told Eagle Eye yesterday:
" I mean what I say. I've treated all these
kids with quietness and kindness. I'm fed up.
They're very immature mistakes and in five
years from now, they'll learn and regret these
mistakes. The majority of our students are
fine people. The college is fed up with the
tactics used by a few, and I hop)e it returns
to normal."

ON THE CAFETERIA:..."Do you people know how the cafeteria
works? I mean, behind the lines? It works on the process that the
less people come to eat, the more money they make and the more
they have left over to give to u s . " — Pat Quinn.

T h i s , LHS students, is the same p e r s o n who
last week stood in the student publications
office in the union and told members of the
newspaper staff that he thought the 'bitch-in'
was a good idea; that as long a s there was
no violence or disorder (and he assured us
there would not be) students were perfectly
within their legal rights as United States
citizens.
Now we find that we were just trying to disrupt things for the sake of disruption! We find
that we are ruining the climate of Lock Haven
State—as if we were polluting the air with a
foul odor.
T h i s , LHS students, is the same person who
stood before the board of directors of the
Student Cooperative Council and
craftily
implied that Walt McCallum and his former administration had violated the SCC constitution, and that the new president, Mike McLau-

They Came to Bitch .
And Bitch They Did

ON ACTION:.'.'.We just had one hell
of a good student government up
here and they just all resigned...
Right now we're faced with a very
pathetic situation and something
should be done — and something
should be done with the government
itself." — Bob Rose, president of
Kappa Delta Rho.
ON UNITY:..."Why isn't there a
student and faculty coalition that
does more than just sit and talk at
Dunkle's Cafe, and shoot the shit in
the cafeteria,-or shoot the shit down
in the union. Now I want to know this.
Because I got one thing to say. I
think we should have a student and.
faculty coalition that will have
governmental working procedures and
be able just more than faculty and
just more than students, but a
student-faculty thing — for problems
facing them and problems that are
being given out by the administration." — Pat Quinn.
ON GOVERNMENT:..."Maybe we
did lose our exec board, maybe we
did lose the best government we had;
but we're the government now, and
it's our responsibility and duty to
carry on the best way we can. We
can't have organization with disorganization." — Jimmie Malonie.

s e e MEETING:..."Last night, down
at the SCC meeting, we went down to
find out why the government resigned,
and what President Parsons wanted
to do about it. He told us what they
did wrong — a lot of petty points that.4^
a lot of people don't give a damn
about. And again last night, he was
tired. Granted, yesterday was convocation and he had a lot of things to do.
I don't mean that as a detrimental remark. He's the president of our
college and no matter how you feel
about him, you've got to respect the
man. But, why doesn't he give us a
fair chance. If he wanta to tell us
his side, why won't he let us tell
our side? He doesn't want to hear
our questions; he doesn't want to
answer our questions. That's all we
ask for." — Jim Himes.
ON UNITY:..."I'd" jusFiike to say
that we ought to,alliPull together and
help them as much as we can. Mike
McLaughlin's a good leader now.
'^Mike's going to be standing up for
what we want and what we need. I
think if we all pull together as one,
we'll bring it about. This is the best
thing that has happened on this
campus; it's the only showing of how
we stand....I think if we all unite,
it will be the best thing that ever

happened on this campus and will
last for many years."

"Everyone's out here today, ano
everyone's clapping and screaming
and yelling. iBut. how many of you
will be even thinking about this
tomorrow? You'll be just as contented
as your commuter students who come
here during the week and leave on
weekends and go back home and have
a good time. And they come back and
go to classes and then leave again.
No (.one' becomes involved here,
that's what happened to the government. They tried, but what can seven
people do for 2,100 students? —
Marsha Frealing.
"We have a lot of problems on this
campus, but the problem we have now
is that we just lost one hell of a good
government. This is the only government that ever stood up to the administration....This government fought —
they fought for you. You people let
them down; the board of directors
were always against them....Mike
IVlcLaughlin's a capable man, but
without the rest of those people, it's
going to be one hell of a cold winter." — Dave Nevel.

ghlin, is " n o t all b a d , y e t . " .
This, LHS students, is the same p e r s o n who
has accused us of interpreting the SCC constitution to suit ourselves—who then precedes
to interpret to suit himself, j u s t as he has
seen fit to interpret the faculty constitution to
suit himself.
This, LHS students, is the same person who
claims (through statements made to an Express
reporter) that the only legitimate ' b i t c h ' was
student representation on the board of trus-^
tees—as if the unsanitary, unhealthy, and
obnoxious conditions of the cafeteria were
none of our b u s i n e s s ; as if losing the SCC
government were none of our b u s i n e s s ; a s if
having our grades cut for missing c l a s s e s
were none of our b u s i n e s s ; as if the many
other bitches were none of our b u s i n e s s .
Students of Lock Haven S t a t e : Dr. P a r s o n s ,
through his actions and statements in the past
few days, has proven himself to be opposed
to students, no matter what he may say; he
has proven himself to be against student-initiated change, no matter what he may s a y ; he
has proven himself to be critical of us ' k i d s '
when we present an orderly, legal, and proper
" b i c t h - i n , " no matter what he may say.
Students of Lock Haven State; Dr. Parsons
has proven himself to be a hypocrite of the
highest order. Make no mistake, Dr. Parsons—
this is not an innuendo from that "horrible
newspaper...(which) doesn't adhere to any
principals of ethical j o u r n a l i s m " ( P a r s o n s '
statements to the Express)—This
is a forthright statement.
Students of Lock Haven State: Dr. Parsons
has proven to lis that he has no respect for usa s students or as human beings. We are like
ping-pong b a l l s to be bounced back and forth
at his whims.
One question students: In proving this, has he
also shown that he is no longer deserving of
student respect? If so, he has hurt us deeply.
