· FIELD
HOCKEY
1980

Outlook
The loss of seven players from last year's squad gives head
coach Jan Hutchinson some big gaps to fill. The success-of
this year's field hockey team will depend largely on the
streng'th of the incoming freshmen.
Hutchinson, in her third season at the helm, doesn't really
know what to expect. "We show a great deal of promise, but
only time will tell; we ' re awfully young and I just don't know
what will happen."
Returning from last year's 5-4-4 team is senior co-captain
Lauren May at an inner position along with junior halfback
Joan Mahoney and sophomores Diane Imboden at a wing
spot, halfback Jeanne Fetch, and fullback Sharon Rush.
Moving up from the junior varsity team that posted a 6-1-2
mark is junior inner Jane Reed and sophomore wing Jane
Seislove. Sophomore Robin Elsner in her first season with
the team will add strength at the wing position.
Debbie Long, a halfback from Brandywine Heights High
School, a perennial PIAA state tournament entrant, leads a
wealth of talented freshmen. Linda Turnbull, a forward from
New Jersey powerhouse, West Essex High School, fullback
Karen Nilson and inner Polly Dougherty will also bolster the
Huskies attack. In the goal will be one of three freshmen;
Laurie Snyder, Diane Sutjak, or Kerry Arnold.
The Huskies will be aiming for their fifth consecutive
winning season in just the seventh year of field hockey at
Bloomsburg State. The sport began at BSC in 1974 and since
has compiled a very respectable 35-19-14 record. The squad
opens its season at the tough Trenton State College
tournament followed by a challenging 13 game schedule
which will hopefully prepare them to qualify for regional and
national competition.

Coach Hutchinson 'conducts' the halftime talk.
