FIELD HOCKEY
OUTLOOK
With the loss of five four-year varsity players
through graduation and with only one senior on
the squad, the 1979 season looks to be a
rebuilding year for Coach Jan Hutchinson. The
Huskies will be shooting for their fourth consecutive winning season. Last year's 10-3-1
record was the best in the school's history.
Although it will be a young team, the improved performance of the returning players and
some talented newcomers, gives hope for
another successful season.
The tri-captains for the 1979 team are senior
Denise Rath (halfback) and juniors Barb Blye
(fullback) and Lauren May (halfback). Returning
lettermen include sophomores Kim Rice (forward), Joan Mahoney (forward) and Rita
Washburn (halfback) and junior Tricia Nixon
(goalie). Kathy Connelly (forward), a transfer
student from Ursinus College, should add to
the team's scoring threat.
The number of skilled first-year players adds
to the future of field hockey at BSC. Sharon
Rush is a fullback from Phillipsburg High
School (NJ), a school which played in the state
finals. Two strong forwards are Jane Seislove
from Spring-Ford H.S. and Diane Imboden, a
former Conestoga H .S. player. Peggy
Whitenight played fullback for a successful
Central Columbia H.S. team and Chris Kazal,
also a fullback, hails from Madison H.S. (NJ).
The squad opens its 1979 season with a
match hosted by Kutztown State College on
September 19. In addition to 11 varsity contests
and the Susquehanna Field Hockey Association tournament on November 3-5 at Susquehanna University, the team will participate
in the first Pennsylvania Conference Championships on October 27-28 at Kutztown.
