COACHES
Mrs. Jan Hutchinson , who joined the
Health and Physical Education staff in
January , 1978, serves as Head Coach for
the women 's field hockey and softbal l
teams .
A native of Newton , New Jersey , Mrs.
Hutch inson received her Bachelor of
Sc ience degree in 1971 from East
Stroudsburg State College where she is
currently enrolled in the master's degree
. _ program . In 1971 she joined the faculty at
Blair Academy , Blairstown , N .J. , where she initiated a girls'
physical education and interscholastic sports program and
coached field hockey , basketball and softball. During her 7
seasons as field hockey coach , her team record was 65-14-8.
Her -husband , Thomas Hutchinson , is wrestling coach and a
member of the science department at Blair Academy.

Sally Cobrain is in her third year as
assistant field hockey coach.
A native of West Hartford, Connecticut, Ms . Cobrain is an Assistant Dean of
Student Life. She received her master of
Arts degree in College Student Personnel
from Bowling Green State University in
Ohio in June 1976.
A 1'973 graduate of Dickinson College
in History and English, Ms. Cobrain was
the co-captain of both the field hockey
and basketball teams for two years.

OUTLOOK
Thirteen returning players from last year's varsity and JV teams, plus a group of enthusiastic and talented freshmen, give
promise to coach Jan Hutchinson of a successful season for the 1978 BSC field hockey team. Even with the many new faces
among the candidates, an early season scrimmage victory over Trenton State indicates that they seem already to be
emerging as a solid team.
The tri-captains for the 1978 team are seniors Robin Mauer, Robin Miller and Donna Santa Maria. The remaining lettermen
includeseniorsTerryMcHaleandCherylKrause,and junior Denise Rath. Moving up to varsity from last year's 6-1-1 JV team
are sophomores Lauren May and Louise Lisicky . Sophomores Jody Deterick and Tricia Nixon will be playing the goalie
positions. Mauer was second leading scorer last year with 11 goals, followed by McHale with 7.
A skilled group of freshmen add strength and depth to the varsity and make the outlook for the future an extremely positive
one . Kim Rice is a centerback and link from Southampton, Pa., where she played varsity for William Tenant H.S. She was a
1977 member of the Philadelphia area "GRAD" team. Jane Reed played inner for Kishacoquillas High School which claimed
the District 6 Field Hockey title the last three years. Mary Ann Carter is a link from Woodbury High School in New Jersey,
Glouchester County champs in 1976 and 1977. Joan Mahoney played inner for Stroudsburg High School, winner of the
Centennial League title in 1976 and 1977 .
The team opens its season at home against Kutztown State College on September 19. The schedule includes 12 varsity
contests (six home) and the Susquehanna Field Hockey tournament which will be held on November 3-4-5 at Bucknell
University.
