FIELD HOCKEY

OUTLOOK
This year's field hockey team is fortunate in having everyone back from last
year's squad plus a group of promising freshmen. Many of the returnees have
played together for three years which should result in solid teamwork on both
offense and defense.
"If our players show the same ability, aggressiveness, and teamwork that was
evident last year, I feel we should have another good season," commented Coach
Mary Gardner. The tri-captains for the 1977 season are seniors Nancy Chapman,
Sharon Gettle, and Louise Quinn.
After an impressive 6-3-2 record last year, the Huskiettes gained honors by
placing second in the Susquehanna Field Hockey Association Tournament in
post-season play. Chapman was named to the first team of the tournament while
Donna Santa Maria, Robin Maurer, Bev Crawford, Cheryl Krause, and Gettel made
the secon Chapman scored the most goals last season, 11, while Terri McHale had 7,
Gettel 5, Maurer 4, Krause 3, and Patty Beans, 2. That group will form this year's
starting offensive line. The defensive line will be Santa Maria, Quinn, Robin Miller,
Joan Williams, and Crawford.
Last year's JV squad also had a winning record of 5-1-2. The incoming freshmen
should give this year's jayvees added strength. Players to expect action from are:
Jane Bowie, goalie; Denise Rath, defense; Joan Baldasano, offense; Lois Hertzog,
defense; and Pam Phillips, offense.
Bloomsburg will be hosting the Susquehanna Field Hockey Association
Tournament on November 5-6. Bucknell University is the defending champion.
