BLOOMSBURG UNIVERSITY " A Commitment To Excellence"
Bloomsburg University is a multi-purpose institution of higher education serving the citizens
of Pennsylvania as one of the 14 Commonwealth-owned Universities. With a commitment to
provide a quality, affordable education for all qualified students, Bloomsburg combines the
tradition of an institution founded in 1839 with modem learning, living, and recreational
programs and facilities . Commonwealth funding provides 55 percent of Bloomsburg's annual
operating budget.
Undergraduate students may enroll in degree programs in 64 areas of study in the arts and
sciences, business, teacher education, nursing, and health sciences. A program in engineering
is offered in conjunction with the Pennsylvania State University, and preparation for postbaccalaureate study at professioonl schools is offered. Unique educaitonal opportunities are
available through advanced placement, study abroad, professional practicum, internships,
independent study and the Center for Academic Development programs.
At the graduate level, the master's degree is offered in 25 areas of study and there are ten
supervisory certification programs in the field of teacher education.
Extended program offerings proved continuing, life-long learning opportunities for people of
all ages and educational interest through non-degree courses, non-credit mini-courses offered
at off-campus locations and by public service television, and credit for work experience.
Enrollment for the Fall semester, 1984, totalled 6,189 students. There were 5,045 full-time and
719 part-time undergraduates, and 93 full-time and 332 part-time graduate students. Instruction
is provided by a 342-member faculty.
The University's 173-acre campus overlooks the Town of Bloomsburg and the scenic
Susquehanna Valley. Carver Hall, built in 1867, provides a contrast with the modem facilities
that include seven residence halls, a library, a 2,000-seat auditorium, student union, dining hall,
gymnasium, administration building, five classroom buildings, athletic fields, and recreational
areas on the lower campus.
An athletic complex and recreational area occupy the school's 100-acre upper campus. In
addition, the James H. McCormick Center for Human Services is the newest building on the
lower campus and was used for the first time last fall.
Located less than two miles from an Interstate 80 interchange and 22 miles from Interstate 81,
Bloomsburg is within one hour's driving time from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Hazleton, and
Williamsport, l½ hour's from Harrisburg, 2½ hours from Philadelphia, and 3 hours from New
York City. The community is 45 miles from the Avoca International Airport and is serviced by
major bus lines.
Bloomsburg has an enviable placement record. Of the 1,183 who graduated in the 1982-83
academic year, 81% had meaningful employment or were in graduate school one year later.
Active files of over 25,000 living alumni are kept by the University. Graduates of BU have
distinguished themselves in areas including law, medicine (one is a Nobel Laureate), science,
architecture, education, industry, and research.
The Bloomsburg University is fully accredited by the Middle Stales Association of Colleges
and Schools, the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education, and the
Pennsylvania State Board of Education.

GEORGE J. LANDIS
HEAD
COACH
Four years ago, George Landis was chosen to rebuild a
Bloomsburg University football program that had not seen a
winning season since 1978 and just four campaigns over the
.500 plateau since 1960.
The results of a complete revamping of the program were
evidenced last season when the Huskies captured their firstever Pennsylvania Conference Eastern Division title and appeared in the "State Game." (PC championship contest) for the
initial time in the school's history.
Bloomsburg posted a 6-5 overall mark but, more importantly,
had a 5-1 record in the PC East to earn a spot opposite
California (PA) in the championship game where the Western Division champion Vulcans
scored a 21-14 triumoh to win the PC crown.
A former assistant coach at Dartmouth College, Landis replaced R. Clark Boler in January of
1982 and now has a three-year mark of 12-17-1. lnhis first season at the helm, the Huskies had a
1-7-1 record but showed vast improvement in almost every category over the previous year when
BU was winless in 10 starts. The following season, Landis' charges, which consisted of almost
80% freshmen and sophomores, notched the school's first non-losing season in six years by
registering a record of 5-5.
In addition, the youthful unit came within one victory of the PC East top spot falling just short
and finishing with a 4-2 division slate.
But, last year, the Huskies dropped just one game in division action and scored a thrilling,
last-second 34-31 victory over West Chester in the ninth contest of the campaign and took their
shot at the PC title.
Landis, 36, a native of Linwood, NJ, helped guide Dartmouth to an Ivy League cochampionship with Yale in 1981 before coming to Bloomsburg. The coach lettered for three
years at Penn State and played in the 1969 and 1970 Orange Bowls in the Nittany Lions'
defensive backfield.
In 1970, he was named to the All-East defensive team and was also honored as South Jersey's
College "Athlete of the Year." He went to PSU from Mainland Regional High School in Linwood,
NJ, where he was a varsity starter for all four years and gained All-American honors. He also
played varsity basketball for three years and baseball for four years.
He holds both a Bachelor of Science in education and Master of Education degree from Penn
State.
His coaching experience started at Penn State where he assisted on the Nittany Lions' staff
while earning his graduate degree. He was the defensive backfield coach at Villanova and
Cornell Universities before taking a head coaching position at Mainland Regional H.S. where
he served for two years. In 1978, he joined the Dartmouth coaching staff as defensive backfield
coach.

THE SEASON AHE'AD
On paper, the 1985 Huskies are one of the strongest units fielded at the school in many
years. The success of this year's squad could depend on a quick start resembling last
season and the avoidance of any letdowns and injuries as BU seeks to retain the school's
first-ever Pennsylvania Conference Eastern Division title it won in 1984. Only two starters
have departed from the division winning team including AP Little All-American Honorable Mention center Mike Jupina and tight end Brian Bidelspach.
The entire defense returns intact headed, once again, by two-time AP Little AllAmerican first team selection Frank Sheptock (6-1, 220). The senior inside linebacker, who
also has been a three-time PC Eastern Division first team choice, has led the Huskies in
tackles in each of his first three seasons and has accumulated 378 tackles, eight fumble
recoveries and five interceptions during that time. Two talented performers share time with
Sheptock in the middle of the defense, Jake Williams (6-0, 195) and Butch Kahlau (5-11,
210) , who ranked third and ninth in team defensive points fill the other insicte slot.
Junior Dave Heckman (6-2, 205), a PC East second team pick, senior Dwayne Hoffman
(6-1, 205) and junior Brian Scriven, who moved back from tailback during last season, will
patrol the outside areas again this season, and rover Cas Kosciolek (6-2, 195) will return
from a leg injury which caused him to sit out the last four games of 1985. Backing up the
linebacking corps is an area that has proven to be the team's strenght over the past few
seasons based largely on the presence of AP Little All-American second team member
Tony Woods (6-0, 195). Already, BU's all-time interception leader (16), the comerback
picked off eight passes a year ago and contributed 45 tackles. Veteran Randy Bullock (6-0,
190) is the free safety, and Paul Fisher (5-11, 185), a newcomer a year ago, will occupy the
other comer.
Three players, who combined for 12 quarterback sacks and 159 tacksles, Wes Cook (6-2,
230), Mark Landis (6-4, 265) and PC East second team performer Jim Tyson (6-2, 245) form
the defensive front wall. Last season, the defense flexed its muscles enough to force 35
turnovers and a record 27 sacks of opposing quarterbacks. The Huskies were particularly
stingy against the run allowing just an average of 121.0 yards per game and seven rushing
touchdowns.
A much-improved offensive output in comparison to 1983 had to be one of the major
reasons for BU's success last year. In 1984, the Huskies put 204 points on the scoreboard
after scoring just 142 in the previous season. Two veteran quarterbacks combined to direct
the team to its first winning season in six years as senior Mike Glovas (6-3, 195) got BU off to
a fast start and junior Jay Dedea (6-3, 200) took over and led the Huskies to the title game.
Dedea completed 74 of 151 passes for 1,094 yards and 10 touchdowns while Glovas hit on
88 of 154 aerials for 1,056 yards and two scores. The pass throwers will have no lack of
targets as nine of last year's top 10 receivers return including the top three. Wide receiver
4
Joe Dowd (5-11, 180) and tight end Kevin Grande (6-5, 210), who split time with the
departed Brian Bidelspach, each recorded 26 receptions for a combined 802 yards and six
touchdowns. Flanker Ken Leibel (5-8, 160) was right behind the leaders with 25 catches for
379 yards and two touchdowns.
In the backfield, four runners that accounted for 1,392 yards will do the bulk of the work.
Junior Jeff Flickner (5-11, 195), the Huskies' tailback, was the club's leading rusher with 702
yards and four touchdowns while senior fullback Calvin Robinson (6-0, 205) was the top
scorer with five touchdowns and rushed for 378 yards. A pair of freshman speedster
Leonard Bluitt (5-10, 175) and Tom Futch (5-11, 170) saw a good amount of action a year ag(
and should see considerable playing time in 1985.
The loss of Jupina at center leaves a gap for the staff to fill in the middle of the offensive
line, but five veteran performers will give a base upon which to build. If senior Dave Tracy
(6-3, 240) fully recovers from a knee injury, he could fill the void created by Jupina' s
graduation. The move of Tracy would leave the rest of the line intact with tackle Rich
Whelchel (6-3, 225) beside guard B.J. Swaldi (6-2, 230) on the left and the tackle-guard
combo of Doug DeLambo (6-5, 255) and Mark Williams (6-2, 215) on the right side.
Woods and Futch handled the kickoH return chores for the most part, and Liebel fielded
the majority of the punts for BU in the specialty areas.
However, on the other side of the ball, experience is lacking as freshman punter Ed
Jankowdki, (6-0, 185) kicked the ball just six times, and three kickers split duties on extra
points, field goals and kickoffs so those positions could be considered up in the air prior to
the September 14 opener with mid-state rival Shippensburg.
The Huskies must also look to improve their penalty situation as they were flagged the
most times in Landis' three-year tenure as coach committing 79 infractions for 642 yards.
After an opening season loss, the Huskies won six of their next eight games to earn that
coveted berth in the "State Game" where they fell to a strong California (PA) squad. The
sixteen seniors that have been with the new coaching staff for the last four years would like
nothing less than another shot to be called Pennsylvania Conference champions in 1985.

A LOOK AT THE VETERANS FOR 1985 -
JAYDEDEA
JEFF FLICKNER
MIKE GLOVAS
CALVIN ROBINSON
OFFENSEQuarterbacks - Two established veterans helped the chili to its first-ever PC Eastern
Division title, and both threw for over 1,000 yards in the process. Mike Glovas completed 88
passes for 1,056 yards while Jay Dedea tossed the ball for 74 completions and 1,094 yards.
Dedea was credited with 10 of the Huskies' 12 scores via the pass, and the duo only threw a
combined eight interceptions in the 11 games. First year players Paul Venesky and Damon
Luciano matured with a year of learning from the sidelines and will be on call if needed.
LEONARD BLUITT
JOE DOWD
TOM FUTCH
KEVIN GRANDE
Rwmingbacks · Four of the top five runners will be in the backfield once again with the lone
departure being Brain Scriven's move back to outside linebacker. Jeff Flickner, the squad's top
yardage performer in each of the last tv,o seasons, will line up to tailback behind powerful
Clavin Robinson, who led the team with five touchdowns in 1984. Two speedy newcomers,
Leonard Bluitt and Tom Futch made their presence known in several games a year ago and will
. undoubtedly see plenty of playing time. Another freshman, Jay Drurngeller, looked good in
limited action last season and, along with transfers Jeff Cicierski and Tom Martin, provides the
staff with a host of talent to carry the ball.
Receivers · Wide receiver Joe Dowd and tight end Kevin Grande evenly split 52 catches for
a combined 802 yards while flanker Ken Liebel hauled in another 25 for 379 yards in 1984 and
will give BU quarterbacks more than enough places to throw the ball. In addition, first year
performer Cutia Still has already displayed the ability on more than one occasion to make the
big catch, and Todd Newman will probably see more time. If that's not enough, veteran Mike
Robinson and transfer Tom Gross, along with sophomore Walt Wynkoop, give the Huskies
outstanding depth in their pass receiving corps.
KEN LIEBEL
CURTIS STILL
DAVE TRACY
8
RICH WHELCHEL
Offensive Line - If a solid replacement for Honorable Mention All-American center Mike
Jupina steps forward, the line could provide excellent protection and blocking. Senior Dave
Tracy is coming off knee surgery and could move from a guard slot to the center position. That
move would still leave established starters at the other four positons in Rich Whelchel and B.J.
Swaldi on the left side and Doug DeLambo and Mark Williams on the right side. Returnees
Steve Maciejewski and Scott Skidmore provide some of the reserve strength while sophomores
Terrence Ginyard and John Fullmer will vie with Tracy for a starting berth at center.
B.). SWALDI
DOUGDELAMBO
MARK WILLIAMS
FRANK SHEPTOCK
DEFENSE Inside Linebackers - Two time All-American Frank Sheptock leads the BU defense from
one of the inside positions but is joined by two talented performers in Jake Williams and Butch
Kahlau. Sheplock, who has led the team in tackles in each of his first three seasons, is closing in
on 500 for his career. Last season, he registered 145 tackles, four fumble recoveries, four
quarterback sacks and two interceptions. Williams and Kahlau ranked third and ninth
respectively in defensive points a year ago.
JAKE W!LllAMS
DAVE HECKMAN
BUTCH KAHLAU
DWAYNE HOFFMAN
Outside Linebackers· Four performers, all of which saw considerable action last season
form the nucleus for this area. Junior Dave Heckman and senior Dwayne Hoffman were the
starters and registered a total of~ tackles and seven quarterback sacks. Scriven's move back
to a position he played as a freshman adds another quality player lo the slot along with Duane
Hettich, who saw more time as last season progressed.
BRIAN SCRNEN
JIM TYSON
DUANE HETIICH
MARK LANDIS
Defensive Line· The three men up front made things happen in 1984 which was a major
reason for the Huskies' success on defense, especially against the run. Tackles Jim Tyson and
· Mark Landis, as well as nose guard Wes Cook, all recorded over 50 tackles and combined for 12
quarterback sacks. A year of learning behind the starters should make players like Vinny
9
Ottomanelli, Scott Baer and Chris Gross ready for playing time and provide solid depth.
WES COOK
TONY WOODS
PAUL FISHER
LEO HARRIS
Defensive Secondary- Once again, this is probably the Huskies' major strength. As in the
case at all the other defensive positions everybody returns including another standout in the
person of Tony Woods, an All-American second team choice. The senior is already the school's
all-time interception leader with 16, which includes the eight passes he picked off in 1984.
Sophomore Paul Fisher impressed the staff enough last season to earn the starting berth at the
other comer.. Senior Leo Harris saw a lot of aciton at the comers, and the addition of Jim Noye, a
converted receiver, will help. Rover Cas Kosciolek missed the last four games with a leg injury a
year ago but will return; finding a backup for him will be a task for the staff during pre-season
workouts. Three-year starter Randy Bullock is at free safety, and another veteran, Pete
Woodhouse, will see plenty of time on the field.

CAS KOSCIOLEK

ED JANKOWSKI
Kicking Game - Remains a que~tion mark as sophomore Ed Jankowski got only six
opportunities to punt in 1984, and three kickers shared those duties leaving some question as to
who will step forward to assume the chore this season.

1984 IN REVIEW
A first-ever PC Eastern Division title and a spot in the "State Game" was certainly the
highlight of the 1984 campaign which saw the Huskies record a 6-5 mark. An opening season
loss was followed by four victories which put BU on the track to the division crown as George
Landis' squad would drop just one of its six PC East games. After winning four of their first seven
contests, the Huskies scored a win over Kutztown and an amazing 34-31 triumph at the expense
of West Chester to claim the division laurels. The latter victory also assured the unit of the
school's first winning season since 1978.
GAME ONE -SEPTEMBER 8 - SHIPPENSBURG 17 BLOOMSBURG 11
Two third quarter touchdowns by the homestanding Red Raiders snapped a 3-3 halftime
deadlock and proved to be the difference in the season opener for both teams. Quarterback
Mike Glovas directed the Huskies to a final period touchdown on an eight yard scoring pass to
freshman Curtis Still. The two-point conversion pass to Kevin Grade got the Huskies within
striking distance, but a last minute drive to the SU 20 yard line stalled. Glovas completed 17 of
26 passes for 194 yards on the afternoon including four each to tight end Brian Bidelspach and
tailback Brian Scriven.
GAME TWO - SEPTEMBER 15 - BLOOMSBURG 23 LOCK HAVEN 0
Defense was the name of this game as the Huskies allowed the visitors just 104 yards in total
offense. Ail-American Frank Sheptock had 14 tackles for the stingy BU defense which set up
three of the scores on a fumble recovery by Jim Tyson and interceptions by Jake Williams and
Butch Kahlau. Tailback Jeff Flickner rushed for 72 yards on 16 carries and Glovas threw for
another 130 yards as the Huskies more than doubled their opponent's offensive output.
GAME THREE - SEPTEMBER 22 - BLOOMSBURG 23 EAST
STROUDBURG 13
A big win over the defending division champion Warriors as BU used a balanced attack to
accumulate 420 yards in offense. The backfield duo of Flickner and Calvin Robinson combined
for 190 rushing yards and two touchdowns while Glovas threw for 202 yards and ran for another
score. Tim Jones added a field goal for the third consecutive game. Flanker Ken Liebel and
Flickner each hauled down five Glovas passes. The Huskies never trailed in the contest as they
built a 14-0 advantage and eventually upped it to 23-7 before closing out the victory.
GAME FOUR - SEPTEMBER 29 - BLOOMSBURG 14 CHEYNEY 6
The Huskies appeared to suffer somewhat of a letdown after the important win the prior week
but outdueled the dangerous Wolves on their home turf. Robinson rammed in from one yard out
to give BU a 7-0 lead after a qu011!er, and then the defenses stood up until Glovas' one yard
plunge in the third period made at 14-0. Cheyney scored early in the final quarter and
threatened again; however, a Tony Woods interception, his second of the day, in the endzone
stifled that drive. Sheptock also had another solid afternoon with an interception, fumble
recovery and 10 tackles.
GAME FIVE - OCTOBER 6 BLOOMSBURG 28 MANSnELD 9
Playing back at home, the Huskies got off to a slow start and led only 7-3 at the intermission
but took charge in the second half to score their fourth straight victory. Sheptock had another fine
day with 17 tackles and a furuble recovery, and Flickner, Robinson and Scriven all had
touchdown runs, Flickner's from 74 yards away. The final score came on a pass from Jay Dedea
to Joe Dowd. Todd Sullivan added all four conversion kicks. The Huskies totalled 359 offensive
yards including 219 on the ground.
GAME SIX- OCTOBER 13 - MILLERSVILLE 22 BLOOMSBURG 15
The Huskies overcame an early 14-0 defecit but couldn't hold on and were saddled with what
turned out to be their lone division defeat. After the Marauders jumped on top, a Dedea-toDowd 68 yard touchdown pass got BU on the board, and Jim Tyson added a safety to make it 148 after three peirods. Early in the final quarter, Calvin Robinson capped a long drive going in
from one yard out, and the extra point gave the Huskies their only lead. The tough Millersville
front wall limited Bloomsburg to just 188 total yards, 46 of them on the ground.
GAME SEVEN - OCTOBER 20 - CALIFORNIA 24 BLOOMSBURG 14
A preliminary to what would be the PC Championship matchup four weeks later. The Huskies
built a 14-0 lead on two short runs by Leonard Bluitt, who gained 157 yards rusing against the
Bulcans. A 90 yard kickoff return put the visitors within a touchdown at halftime and 17
11
unanswered points in the second half gave the Huskies their second straight loss. BU easily
outgained California 406 to 291, but the more experienced Vulcans capitalized on a botched
punt attempt and two drives to seal the win.
GAME EIGHT - OCTOBER 27 - BLOOMSBURG 14 KUTZTOWN 3
All the scoring came in the first half of this important division win for BU in the 57th Annual
Homecoming game. A 13 yard scoring toss from Dedea to Liebel capped the game's opening
drive as the Huskies jumped in front early. The same combination accounted for Bloomsburg's
second score as Liebel hauled in a 21 yard Dedea aerial in the second period to cap a 72 yard
drive. On the afternoon, Dedea completed 14 of 21 passes for 209 yards including four
receptions by Liebel for 54 yards. A tough BU defense allowed Kutztown inside the 30 yard line
on only two occasions allowing just the field goal.
GAME NINE - NOVEMBER 3 - BLOOMSBURG 34 WEST CHESTER 31
A game that will be remembered for a long time as the Huskies scored on a 50 yard
desperation pass from Dedea to Curtis Still on the game's final play to clinch the school's firstever PC Eastern Division title. An outstanding afternoon which saw Dedea complete 24 of 48
passes for 373 yards and three touchdowns, while Scriven rushed for another score, and Todd
Sullivan added two field goals. Defensively several players had fine performances including
Sheptock, who had 14 tackles and a sack and Dave Heckman, who contributed a safety. BU
trailed 17-3 after a period but used 19 second quarter points to pull within 24-22 at halftime. A
touchdown in the third quarter by the Rams made it 32-22 and set the stage for probably the most
incredible comeback in Bloomsburg football history.
GAME TEM - NOVEMBER 10 - LYCOMING 24 BLOOMSBURG 14
Probably the poorest game of the year as the Warriors dominated BU on both sides of the line
and limited the Huskies' improving ground game to just 62 yards. Trainling 7-0 early in the
contest, the Huskies evened it on a flickner 49 yard run and Sullivan conversion and took their
only lead of the day on an eight yard pass from Dedea to Scriven. After that, is was all Lycoming
as the home team tied it before halftime and used second half touchdown and field goal to hand
Bloomsburg its fourth loss of the year. Quarterbacks Dedea and Glovas combined for 198
passing yards while Sheptock had 10 tackles and two sacks.
"STATE GAME" - Hersheypark Stadiurn Hershey, PA- NOVEMBER 17
CALIFORNIA 21 BLOOMSBURG 14
The second meeting of the season between the two teams, this time for the Pennsylvania
Conference Championship, and the Vulcans continued their mastery of the Huskies by
snapping a 14-14 halftime deadlock with a third quarter touchdown. California led 7-0 after the
opening quarter, but a 66 yard run by flickner knotted it early in the second period. Again, the
Vulcan& took a touchdown lead but prior to the intermission, Dedea connected with Dowd from
18 yards out to make it even once more. Dedea threw for 193 yards in the game combining with
Dowd and Liebel for three receptions apiece. Sheptock was the story on defense again in this
contest as he contributed 20 tackles and a fumble recovery.

PENNSYLVANIA STATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE
\
'
The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference is comprised of 14 schools in the Pennsylvania
State System of Higher Education. This new governing body took over from the Department of
Education on July 1, 1983, and the change was also reflected in the granting of university status
to all member institutions formerly known as "state colleges."
The conference is under the leadership of a Board of Directors consisting of the 14 university
presidents.
The conference sponsors championship competition in ten sports for men and ten for women
as follows: Fall Season - MEN - cross country, football, soccer; WOMEN - cross country, field
hockey, tennis and volleyball. Winter Season - MEN - Basketball, swimming and diving, and
wrestling; WOMEN - basketball, gymnastics, swimming and diving. Spring Season - MEN baseball, golf, tennis, and track and field; WOMEN - lacrosse, softbalL and track and field.
All 14 schools are members of Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association
(NCAA). In Individual sports, however, some schools have elected to compete in other NCAA
divisions.
Athletes and teams have won numerous honors in national competition and have helped the
PSAC become one of the most respected "small college" conferences in the nation.

REDMAN STADIUM "HOME OF THE HUSKIES" -
Robert B. Redman Stadium is situated on the upper campus of Bloomsburg University as part
of the university's 103 acre athleticomplex. Completed in February of 1974, the new facility took
the place of Athletic Park in downtown Bloomsburg as "Home of the Huskies." The stadium,
which overlooks the scenic Susquehanna Valley, has sealing for 5,000 spectators although
attendance at several events has exceeded that total.
The area is designed for expansion should such a project be needed and contains large
storage capabilities as well as a concession stand and restrooms. The university's upper
campus also contains the E. H. Nelson Fieldhouse, Danny Litwhiler Field (baseball) and a huge
field area which serves as home for the Huskies' soccer and lacrosse teams along with multiple
practice fields . Located inside the stadium confines is an all-weather track used by BU's mens's
and women's track and field teams. A pressbox with seating for more than 40 persons is situated
on lop of the west stands.
Originally, when planning began for the new stadium in 1963, the proposed site was the area
now occupied by 18 tennis courts on the lower campus, however, a consultant's report
recommened the upper campus development. The prnjecl finally got underway in 1972 al a total
cost of $725,000.
On Saturday, September 21, 1974, the first game was played in the stadium and dedication
ceremonies were held naming the facility in honor of Redman.
A native of Sayre, PA, and a graduate of its public schools, Coach Redman graduated with
honors in economics al Swarthmore College where he also participated in four years of varsity
fooball activities, served as captain during his senior year, and was also a varsity performer with
the baseball team. He earned the master of arts degree in economics as an honor student al
Duke University and began his program of doctoral studies in economics at Pennsylvania State
University durir,:;J his tenure al Bloomsburg State College.
Redman had coached at Sayre High School and al North High School in Binghamton, New
York prior to serving as an officer in the United States Navy during World War 2. He left the
service with the rank of lieutenant commander. He returned lo his coaching duties al North High
School and remained there until his appointment al Bloomsburg in 1947.
In addition to serving a; a head coach of two varsity teams, Redman also served as dean of
men and taught a full schedule of courses in economics.
During his five years al Bloomsburg, his teams won 38 games while losing only four . His
record included three Pennsylvania Conference championships and two undefeated teams. He
left Bloomsburg in September 1952 to become head football coach at East Orange Senior High
School, New Jersey. During the late 50's he was appointed principal of the senior high school
and his untimely death occurred in 1960 shortly after he had been elected superintendent of
schools in East Orange, New Jersey.

is offered in conjunction with the Pennsylvania State University, and preparation for postbaccalaureate study at professioonl schools is offered.
The University's 173-acre campus overlooks the Town of Bloomsburg and the scenic

lower campus and was used for the first time last fall.

GEORGE J. LANDIS
HEAD
In 1978, he joined the Dartmouth coaching staff as defensive backfield
coach.

the past twelve years. Ron is located in the Nelson Fieldhouse and handles
most of the equipment needs of BU's 18 varsity programs.
