LITERARY SOCIETY NOTES
On account of the joint society
play presented an January 19, no
meeting of either society was held,
Inasmuch as it requires a very good
reason to be excused from particpa-
tion in the society programs from
now on, it is expected that there will
be a marked improvement in them.
The following programs will be
presented at regular Philo meeting:
January 26: Devotional exercises,
Hulda Gibson; instrumental selection,
Jean Crawford; essay, Erla Hecka-
thorne; piano solo, Helen Curry ; book
review, Marguerite Anderson; -cur-
rent events, Helen Shremp; Philo
Gem, Ura Williams, editor; ecritic’s
report.
February 2: Devotional exercises,
Margaret Campbell; debate, Resolved
that regular gymnastic work is more
beneficial than participation in or-
ganized athletics. Affirmative, Mark
Guthridge, Meredith Rittenhouse;
negative, Kenneth Hogg, Mary Grif-
fin; Philo Gem, Francis Rowan, edi-
tor.
THE SLIPPERY ROCKET

mechanical trains and toys, games, sewing outfits, etc.

tle house gowns, chinese baskets, silk hose and gloves, toilet prepai-
ations—and many other splendid articles that will prove most ac-
ceptable gifts.
NECKTIES, socks, ’kerchiefs, as usual for the men. Also scarf sets, belts,
sheeplined coats, bed-room slippers, ete.
And have you investigated the prices? They are so low as to surprise you
greatly. But the reason is logical, there is no spectacular “cut” for
the occasion. They are the prices that will always be found in a J.
C. PENNEY COMPANY STORE. This company is composed of
475 stores situated in live communities all over the United States,
and to supply all these stores with merchandise means that a vast
quantity must be purchased at one time, thus reducing the cost to
the very minimum. And in a gieat many instances the entire out-put
from one factory is used, thus eliminating all those reasons for high
selling prices.
