As the temperature keeps
dropping, so does the Rock
baseball team's record.
The Rock (6-15) had a 3-6
record in a seven-day affair
this past week.
It all started with three
splits against Point Park and
Cal. State. The Rock then
took a game from Edinboro.
They ended their last two out-
ings with losses in both
doubleheaders.
The Rock split with Point
Park in a doubleheader last
Thursday.
The niners won the first
game, 6-5 and dropped the
second, 6-4.
Slippery Rock got things
started in the second inning
when Tom Kahn singled to
drive in Lane Baker, who had
doubled. Gene Vallecorsa
followed with a blast over the
fence as SR took a 3-0 lead.
But Point Park tied the
game and in the fifth inning
took a 5-3 lead when Joe De-
Carlo hit a two-run home run.
The Rockets cut Point
Park's lead, 5-4 when Mike
Fitcher doubled and Tom
Konop hit a sacrifice fly to
score Fitcher.
After John Samsa walked,
Jim Pescatore hit a two-run
home run to put the Rock a-
head and secure the win.
In the second game, Sal
Agostinelli tripled and drove

lieve Mike Filson in the se-
venth. After fanning the first
batter, Park’s DeCarlo did it
again as he doubled in a run.
Following that play, the Rock
made two sthrowing errors
which produced two Point
Park runs.
The Rock could only score
one more run as they lost the
second game.
Two davs later, SR split a-
nother twinbill, this time with
Cal. State.
The Rockets lost the first 3-
0 and rallied in the second
game with a 6-4 victory.
The Rock could only
manage five hits in the first
game, and had three errors.
In the second game, SR
had three runs in the first inn-
ing.
Joe Lacey singled and
Agostinelli reached first after
he was hit by a pitch.
Softball team takes two
from Cal St., 3-0, 14-4

The Slippery Rock State
College softball team racked
up two more wins with a
sweep of Cal. State by scores
of 3-0 and 14-4.
The highlight of Slippery
Rock’'s 3-0 victory in game
one was the pitching o* tresh-
man, Cheryl Stev:nson.
Stevenson hurled an mpres-
sive two-hit shutout, striking
out seven and walking none
in her first SR start.
Slippery Rock got Steven-
son all the runs she needed
by plating three in the home
half of the first. Shorty Bul-
lock started things for SR by
reaching first on an error and
moved to second when Jean-
nie Bloom ripped a single. A
wild pitch moved both run-
ners into scoring position at
second and third and Debbie
Feather knocked both runs in
with a single. Feather eventu-
ally came around to score on
a single by Elaine Ventura.
Pacing the Rock in game
one were Bloom and Ventura
who stroked two singles a
piece.
Slippery Rock pounded out
15 hits in the second half of
the twinbill enroute to a 14-4
thrashing of the visiting Vul-
cans
Leading the Rock hitting
attack in game two, was
Feather who ripped five sin-
glesin five plate anpearances
while scoring four times and
three
in another
knocking
runs.
Laura Yorouski was three
for three with a walk and an
RBI while scoring three times
for the Rock. Teammate
Bullock scored three times
for SR while clubbing two hits
and batting in one.
Laura Morgan went the dis-
tance for Slippery Rock
upping her season mark to 2
and 0. Morgan pitched a tour
hitter, walking two and
fanping three.
Rock cbach Jan Kasnevich
has been impressed with the
Rock's defense so far and
hopes that the pitching can
be as strong and consistent
for the rest of the campaign
as it has been thus far. Kasne-
vich still points to the team's
hitting as the key. "The hit-
ting has to become more bal-
anced throughout the order
for us to do well against
tougher teams,” Kasnevich
said. Kasnevich cited Lock
Haven, Clarion and Edinboro
as being the Rock’s tough
conference foes.
The Rock will face Edin-
boro this afternoon with the
first game of the two game set
slated for 2 p.m.
Tomorrow the Rock will
travel to Wheeling for the
Wheeling Invitational. Slip-
pery Rock will be facing
teams trom Wheeling, West
Liberty State in this round-
robin non-conference tourn-
ament. Kasnevich plans on
taking a good look at some of
her reserves in this tourna-
ment.

on for the victory.
Sunday came and so did
the snow, as the Rock got in
only one game out of a
doubleheader.
The Rock shutout the Edin-
boro Fighting Scots for a 9-0
thrashing.
The baseballers pounded

the Rock racked three more
runs for a 9-0 win.
The Rock dropped a twin-
bill with IUP Tuesday by one-
run differences, 3-2 and 4-3.
The Rock had leads in both
games and outhit the Indians
in both games.
The Rock had a 2-0 lead
until the sixth inning, when
reliever Scott Hunt gave up a
pair of runs. Hunt replaced
Tom Begley, who has a his-
tory of arm trouble,
IUP won the first game on a
pinch single from Joe Car-
penter in the seventh inning.
Again, the Rockets had a 2-
0 lead in the second game.
Samsa had a two-run blast
to put the Rock in front in the
first.
But IUP came back for a 3-
2 advantage when Indian Jim
Lamey hit a two-run homer in
the sixth.
The, Rock rallied to tie the
game, , but Bruce Sweger hit a
home run in the ninth for the
IUP win.
The Rock dropped their
second consecutive twin-bill
Wednesday, as they lost to
Westminister by the scores of
3-2and 5-4.
