see candidates announced
By DEB KERNER
Staff Reporter

The upcoming SCC election
will offer more of a selection
for the voters with the
establishment of two official
slates and two independent
candidates seeking election to
the SCC Executive Committee.
Running on the Explosive
Slate are; Paul Benkert, Jack
Sohnleitner, Joe Harper, Sue
Daum, and Mary Walsh.
The opposing slate consists
of Mike Hanna and Jayne
Bolduc. The rest of this slate
will be comprised of write-in
candidates which are expected
to be announced Friday or
Monday.
The independent candidates
are Eden Richards of Lock
Haven and Joe Gracia of
Williamsport.
Presidential Candidates
The nominees for President
of the SCC are Eden Richards,
Mike Hanna, and Paul
Benkert.
Eden Richards is a junior
majoring in elementary education. He is the President of
the Free U Association of Lock
Haven State College, a
member of the honor society
Kappa Delta Pi and a member
of the chess club. He also
operates a general contracting
business of his own.
Eden feels that he is
qualified for the position
because he's interested in
change and a restructuring of
the present system of student
government. "I have no
political qualifications but
plenty of interest, concern,
and motivation to respond to
the student's needs."
If elected he would like to
change the government to be
run more like a student
business since the major
concern of students is how
their money is spent by the
SCC. "The SCC is run as a

student government but yet it
hasn't fulfilled its duties to the
students. 1 don't feel that
anyone should tell students
how they should be governed.
In other words, changes
should not be decided by a
small group of people but rather
by the students as a mass."
Senior, Michael Hanna is a
political science major who
feels that his major has been a
valuable asset by providing
him with background information and knowledge concerning the workings of government. He is involved with the
Democratic party of Clinton
County and the history club.
Having no present ties with
the SCC, Mike feels that this
will work to his advantage by
enabling him to be more
responsive to new ideas.
Mike wants to narrow the
scope of the SCC expand the
services rendered. He'd like to
reorganize the present accounting system since any
money spent on campus for
any organization or club is
decided on by the SCC. Mike

and Jayne propose to have the
students more directly involved with deciding how the
money from the activity fee is
spent. On their proposal
students will have somewhat
of a choice as to where the
money goes. He is greatly in
favor of re-evaluating and
changing the election rules
and regulations to avoid any
situation similar to what
happened in this year and last
year's elections.
Paul Benkert is a junior
majoring in political science.
He is currentiy First Vice
President of the SCC. He's
also a member of the Student
Appropriations Committee,
and the treasurer for the
Commonwealth Association of
Students (CAS), and he use to
be the Campus Coordinator of
the CAS. During this past
summer he acted as a lobbyist
in the CAS office.
"I feel that my past
exposure to the inner workings
of the SCC will provide me

By SUE SHELLY
Applications are at present
being accepted for the position
of Lock Haven State College
Trustee.
The Student Trustee will be
a voting member of the Board
of Trustees which decides such
things as approvals for
sabbatical leave requests,
personnel appointments, and
the disposition of surplus
funds. A trustee is a member
of the highest decision making
authority on campus.
Mary Kopp presentiy holds
the position of Student
Trustee. She was appointed by
the Governor of Pennsylvania
on December 13, 1974 and

confirmed by the Senate on
June 2, 1975. Mary replaced
George Bower as Student

Ms. Kopp will be graduating
in December, which will leave
her position open.
Applications for Student
Trustee must be residents of
Pennsylvania. They must have
the academic status of at least
a sophomore and should have
a basic understanding of the
responsibilities of a trustee
and a true concern for the
welfare ofthe students and the
college. The candidates must
have an academic standing
which makes it likely that they
will remain at the college
through graduation.

The applications are channled through the SCC
to the Department of Education to Harrisburg. The SCC
must submit at least three
names and no more than five.
When asked about the
importance of the position of
student trustee, Lorin Mock,
President of SCC responded,
"they do control a large
amount of the things that
students are directly involved
with, and therefore it is
important to have a good
student trustee."
Anyone interested in applying for the office of student
trustee should give his name
to Lorin Mock in the Pub,
before Monday, November 22.

Writer responds to Wednesday's commentary
To the Editor
The Sohnleitner, Hofman and
two friends (Sue Kelley &
??)???? Expedition,
I am a student employee of
L.H.S."". Law Enforcement, in
case it interests you! First of
all, how do you know the
officers in question were
"standing idly together" in
front of the Field House
Circle? Did you ask them what
they were doing? How do you
know they weren't apprehending the so called rapist? I'd
like to know how you know
exactly what the officers were
doing!
It is a "fact" that Bev
Hofman was carrying a brown
paper bag, and inside that bag
was a six pack of beer!! It is a
"fact" that Bev Hofman is 19
years of age, which makes her
a minor! It is a "fact" that
when the officer ask who's
beer it was-Bev said it was
Jack's! And it is a "fact". Jack
refused to answer the officers
question-was it his beer?
Which only raises the question, why didn't Jack say it
was his beer when the
question arose? Is that what
you call your friend?
Your right, it doesn't matter
if Sohnleitner is over 21. It is
against L.H.S.C. and State
Law to allow drinking on
campus. It really doesn't
matter if Sohnleitner is 41.
You stated your info a bit
incorrectiy. Yes there were
only three officers on duty, but
they were not all standing
around talking at one time. If
you recall-2 were standing,
and one came in the van.
What's this about being

atraid of what the officer
would do to you? Now that's
really funny! What were you
afraid of? I'll bet you thought
they had a shotgun hidden
under their coat right?
Hardly!!! I can hardly believe

that you Bev, were so horribly
frightened by the "tone" of
Mr. Patricks voice, with such a
strong man (Jack) standing
there by your side!
The only consequences lie in

New freshman meets frustration
To the Editor:
Hello, I am a first semester
freshman here at L.H.S.C. and
would appreciate an opportunity to address the student body
via our newspaper theEagle
Eye.
Before matriculating here at
L.H.S.C. I was under the
impression that a college perse was an institution of higher
learning and that when in
attendance at same your
efforts and/or energies were
supposedly directed at the
attainment of knowledge for
the purpose of the betterment
of the self, which if pursued
for a specific amount of time

would eventually result in a
degree of recognition from
that college, provided your
personal degree of professionalism coincided with the
expectations ofthe institution.
Obviously I've a facetious
mistake by thinking in this
manner, this is probably
because of my naive approach
or outiook on life which is more
than likely a result of only
having an eighth grade
education. Being that I did
miss my social-environmental
programming (high school), I
would like to take this

Rockathon starts today

Imagine rocking continually
for a period of 48 hours for the
purpose of raising money for
the American Cancer Society!
This weekend project will be
the endeavor of the sisters of
Delta Zeta and Sigma Kappa.
From 6 pm Friday night until 6
pm Sunday night, eight
rockers will be occupied by the
sorority sisters in hopes of
raising $2000 for the American
Cancer Society.
The Rock-a-thon is an
annual event sponsored by the
sisters of Deha Zeta. The
philanthropic event was initiated in 1974 when $700 was
PART-TIME

raised. In 1975, $1800 was
raised through the efforts of
the Delta Zeta sisters and Tau
Kappa Epsilon brothers. The
proceeds were donated to the
Iniant Development Program
at the Lock Haven Hospital. In
an effort to involve another
Greek organization in this
philanthropic endeavor, the
Delta Zeta's have combined
forces with the Sigma Kappas.
Sources for this year's
Rock-a-thon include donations
from individual sponsors,
campus personnel and Lock
Haven businesses.
Students are urged to visit
the "rockers" in Bentley Hall
Lounge and to contribute to
the cause.

David Heverlv
seeks truth in
form of debate

To the Editor:
Well, well, well! Did I strike
a nerve? Why should three
people devote so much time,
effort and space to defending
themselves from a column full
of foolish mistakes?
I can only say that I stand
100% behind everything 1
wrote.
To quote Julie
McGovern, current Editor-in-Chief of the Eagle Eye,
from a commentary she wrote
in the April 26, 1976 issue of
the Eagle Eye:
The integrity of David
Heverly...is not to be
questioned.
The stage has been set and
the sides chosen. While 1 still
wish to pursue the truth in this
matter, I can no longer
continue my pursuit in a
medium that you control. In
such a forum, the truth itself
becomes corrupted.
Ms. McGovern, Mr. Burlingame and Ms. Morse, 1
challenge you to debate these
issues before the entire
student body. I want the
students to be able to see us in
the flesh, look us in the eyes,
hear and evaluate what we
have to say and then decide
who is the truth's most
obedient servant.
The only stipulations I have
are that:
1.) This debate be open to the
entire college community.
2.) Everyone in attendance
must be allowed to ask anyone
of us any questions they want.
3.) This debate must take
place before the S.C.C. Executive Committee Election.
I have thrown down the
guantiet. To decline is to
admit that 1 am right and that
you are corrupt.
Your Obedient Servant

PRO BALL

by Steve
Heverly

Who would believe that the Steelers would ever be rooting for
the Raiders? The only chance the defending champs have is for
them to beat the Bengals and then the Raiders. If this doesn't
happen the Steelers will be watching from their T.V.'s. As for the
other divisions a lot will be determined this week. My record last
week, 9-5. Overall 83-42.
Im Angeles 25 San Francisco 17
Los Angeles puts themselves one and one-half game above
the 49ers with a win in San Francisco. LA comes up with their best
game of the year.
St. Louis 21 Washington 10
The Cardinals will knock the Redskins out of any play-off
hopes and avenge that sloppy Monday night game.
Oakland 31 Philadelphia 10
Roman gets his first start in a year when he faces the Raiders
in Philadelphia. Eagles can't stop Raiders from clinching AFC
west.
Chicago 20 Detroit 17
Bears again will be carried on the feet of Walter Payton as
they build toward a real challenge next year.
Minnesota 17 Green Bay 10
Vikings clinch central division of NFC with win in Green Bay.
DaUa8 32 Atlanta 3
Atianta surprised San Francisco last week but Cowboys are
due for good game after two bad ones.
Cincinatti 20 Kansas City 10
Cincinatti was saved by Issac Curtis last week but won't need
any last second heroic verses the Chiefs.
Cleveland 17 Tampa Bay 14
Tampa Bay looks for an upset but Browns are still alive in
their quest for a wild-card birth.
New England 17 NY Jets 10
Jets put scare into Patriots who don't play like Giant killers
when they play inferior competition. New England, bar any
upsets, will not lose another regular season game.
New Orleans 24 Seattle 21
Seattle can score enough points to make game with Saints
close. Seattle has a good chance at an upset here.
Denver 17 NY Giants 3
Denvers defense is strong enough that Dennelos' foot will
again be the Giants only offense, but this week it won't be enough.
Buffalo 34 San Diego 31
Two explosive offensives that have been dormant for weeks
should finally explode in Buffalo with O.J. getting at least 100
yards.
Houston 21 Pittsburgh 20
Upset of the year! The Steelers get caught looking ahead to
next weeks match with the Bengals and get knocked completely
out of division chase and playoffs.
Miami 20 Balthnore 17
Dolphins show home crowd that although out of playoffs, they
can still be spoilers in division. Colts loss forces tie for first place.
Upset number 2!
