1 am writing this letter as a
studeni very much c about the differences arising
amongst the administration, the
faculty, and the students of this
college. The Harry I. Miller
affair
has aroused several
previously latent or at least
imprecedented
i s s u e s . Among
them are the following:

I must condemn the cruel practical joke sprung upon the members
involved by some person of
extremely poor taste — 1 refer to
a statemenl attributed to the
office of the president, a statement made with an a l l too
obvious
attempt
to
disrupt
student-facully-administralion
negotiations and lo misrepresent
the facts of the Harry I. Miller
case.
This statement attributed to
our president was a direct
insult upon the student body in
the form of a condemnation of the
personal civility and civism of

the sluden; and of the personal
integrity i)t the officers o\' our
leprcsentative body, the SCC.
Eurther it was an insult to the
personal intelligence of Harry
I. Miller and lo our democratic
legal system. The very idea of
someone being guilty of something that isn't illegal:
The faculty itself was not spared

The question is litigation.
Harry Miller was
dismissed
prior to it, and Raymond Zale
and William Carpenter might be
dismissed
after
it.
To be proven guilty beyond a
shadow of a doubt is a right to
a l l : students, faculty and administration are subject to that
constitution a l s o . After guilt
is proven, action, disiplinary or
titherwise is discussed and levied.
T h a t ' s what makes this country
s o great. Isn't it?

This year the F.agle Hye seems
to be continuing its tradition of
shallow reporting, had writing,
misinformation,
and
preposterously misleading h e a d l i n e s .
In the AAUP item, you overlooked several f a c t s :
(1) The AAUP resolution said
nothing about our administration.
(2) Local AAUP chapters do
not " c e n s u r e " administrations.
Only the National AAUP does
anything like that, but such
action has not been taken.
(3) The local chapter of AAUP
is only a subset of Ihe faculty.
Any of this information, and
more, could have been checked
easily by contacting an AAUP
officer. Clearly you have not
done even this minimal amount
of
research.
Also, in Ron Smith's article,
is a remark about a " r u m o r " of
a "good chance for
a senatetype government for the faculty."
Had Mr. Smith bothered to ask a
faculty member, he would have
discovered that last year a senate
proposal failed to get the 2/3
faculty vote needed for p a s s a g e ,
and prospects of adoption of a
senate in the near future would
seem very dim.
If Eagle Eye reporters do not
take the trouble to double check
factual statements, or to go lo
authoritative
sources,
what
confidence can anyone have in
anything you print?
