Journey to self:

The purpose of the study is to develop a treatment model incorporating art therapy in conjunction with shamanic pathways for juvenile sex offenders to develop an authentic self-identity. There is little research available regarding the use of art therapy with juvenile sex offenders. This study will go towards helping this population, and hopefully prompt more research in the future. The curriculum presented will journey through art therapy interventions mixed with shamanic healing with the intention of helping juvenile sex offenders delve into their Self, search for the person they want to be, and break through societal labels to live an authentic and more fulfilling life. Using shamanic healing along with art therapy can offer juvenile sex offenders a chance to recreate themselves as healthy and whole individuals. Combining the two modalities has the potential for powerful changes within the offender population.
