I Page 2 BLOOMSBURG FAIR NEWS 1960 The "CANADETTES" The most famous group of dancing girls on this continent is the 24 "CANADETTES," the girls who appear each year in the biggest grandstand show of them all at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto, the largest Fair in the World. The patrons of the Bloomsburg Fair are promised something entirely different in production in their big night spectacular, Ward Beam's "IT'S WONDERFUL," than they have ever had in the past. There will be more "Ooh" and "Aahs" than have ever been heard when a dancing group performs. The girls will work in 3 big production numbers. This is the larg-es~ number of girls to work at Bloomsburg and the stage is being enlarged because of the type of numbers they do. These girls will also work in the finale which will be the "Blue Danube." ARTS and CRAFTS HOBBY SHOW FLOWER SHOW In your visit to the Bloomsburg Fair do not fail to include the Arts a n d Crafts building, where you will see the latest creations of handiwork and needlework. Featured in the Arts and Crafts division is a special display for 4-H Clubs. The 1960 Hobby Show will be the biggest yet. The Show features both collective and occupational hobbies in two classes: Junior class (persons 18 years of age and under) ; Senior class ( over 18 years). Both groups include coins and currency, U. S. and Foreign; Miniatures (all materials); nature studies (flowers, insects, seeds); paper objects; dolls and p u p p e t s; pipes; guns; novelties; china paintings; candle craft; baskets; plastics; chip carving; fishing flies and equipment; models (aeroplanes, ships, etc.); paper craft (objects made of paper) ; shell craft; taxidermy; jewelry (metal); wood work; objects made of thread or fabric and ceramics. There will be outstanding beauty in this year's Flower Show where thousands of persons will walk through this quiet, cool building to inspect the pride of flower growers. Special exhibits by Garden Clubs will emphasize the theme "Moods of the Times." An added Garden Club feature is the Shadow Box Class, an arrangement of Flowers in a Tea Pot. The Show is under the superv1s10n of James C. Stradling. Cotton Bag Sewing Contest Twenty-four prizes and a Portable Sewing Machine are offered in the 1960 National Cotton Bag Sewing Contest. All articles must be made from cotton bags. George R. Pugh . is Superintendent of this department. LIVESTOCK SHOW Mr. J. Fred Giger, Livestock Superintendent of the Bloomsburg Fair, anticipates the largest Show in the Fair's History. Competition will be keen in all departments. In the cattle classes are five divisions of milk cattle and two divisions of beef cattle. Registered sheep and swine have seven divisions each. There will be a special Show of Aberdeen-Angus cattle. HORSE PULLING The horse pulling contest will be held at 10 o'clock Friday morning in the open air arena on the western end of the Fairgrounds. There are 2 classifications: horses weighing less than 3200 pounds per pair, and horses weighing 3200 pounds or over per pair. None are barred. Entry fee $10.00 in Open Class. The largest farm machinery display ever b!'ought to the Bloomsburg Fair will be on display this year, according to M. Paul Whitenight, Superintendent of Farm Implements. Dealers from all over the State will show and they will put on tractor demonstrations, and sawing exhibitions. RAIN OR SHINE The Night Grandstand Shows will be put on, Rain or Shine, because the stage is well covered with protective covering that makes it possible to run the show if it rains. Agricultural Hall, housing displays of farm crops, fruit and home making delicacies, will attract thousands. A Special D i s p 1 a y for Grange organizations is also included in this department. This year a special Best-ofShow Yeast Baking Award of $10 for the yeast-raised bread, sweet bread or rolls judged best from entries of all classes will be awarded. This department is handled by vet e r an Superintendent John F. Boyer. Big Midway More rides, more shows and more entertainment are in store for the thousands who visit the Midway at the Fair this year. On special children's days, rides are reduced in price over certain hours of the day. CHILDREN'S DAYS Tuesday, Thursday and Friday are spec i a 1 children's days. School children are admitted free throughout the week. Teachers, upon proper identification from their schools, are granted free admission on school days. POULTRY AND RABBIT SHOW Recognized as the largest show in the east and one of the best in the nation is the Bloomsburg Fair Pou 1 try Show, under the direction of E. Myron Sands, Supt. Due to the fact that more poultry is entered than can be cooped, only the best will be accepted. Ten dollars is offered for the best male and female in both standard and bantam breeds. East of the poultry building is located a large waterfowl display. The Rabbit Show, under Mr. Sands' direction, promises to be bigger than ever. DOG SHOW The increasing popularity of the dog show at Bloomsburg Fair has resulted in the construction of a larger, modern building, with a 150-pen capacity. This building will be packed with working dogs, sporting dogs and terriers. DOLINOFF and RAYA SISTERS THE GUTIS A man and 3 lovely ladies seemingly defy gravity. They perform slow-motion feats in mid-air without any visible means of support. This is Dolinoff and Raya Sisters, who will bring to the Bloomsburg Fair something entirely new in entertainment every night. An European type of jungle comedy will appear each night in the night show. The timing finesse and the humor of European comedy is decidedly different than that of American acts. You'll like it. MING and LING If you really want to laugh, you are going· to get your chance when you see MING AND LING. These 2 Chinese boys appear every night at the Bloomsburg Fair grandstand show.
