Changes to grading Spring 2020 Approved by PEC 3.31.20 Because of the movement of classes to remote delivery and the resulting strain on both students and faculty, Clarion University will adopt the following change in grading for the spring 2020 semester: Graduate and undergraduate students in the regular 15-week session and second 7-week (7w2) session spring courses will receive a grade of A, B, C, P (Pass), or NCR (no credit). • • • • • The P grade will automatically replace the D. The NCR grade will automatically replace the F. The P and NCR grades will not be included in the grade point average (GPA). Students may request that B and C grades be changed to P after the grades are posted May 7, 2020. The P grade will not be included in the GPA. This does not waive minimum GPA requirements for your program of study and does not apply to courses required for accreditation and licensure. You may need to select letter grades to boost your GPA, so please work with your advisor. Courses selected for the P option will not be included in determining eligibility for dean’s list. The qualifications for dean’s list are minimum GPA of 3.5 for the semester and a minimum of 12 credits with letter grades of A,B,C. This policy does NOT apply to courses taught during the first 7-week session (7w1). Process: • • • • • • After grades are posted May 7, 2020, you will receive an email from the registrar giving a 7-day window to indicate if you want any B/C grades you received to be changed to P, and outlining the process for doing so. Please talk to your advisor or department chair about your choices. Your requests for the Pass option (B/C grades only) will be reviewed for approval by the department chair of your program. The registrar will enter the grades into the record. This may take several weeks. Your transcript will then reflect your choices. Awarding degrees for spring will take approximately a month to complete.
