CLARION UNIVERSITY COMMUTERS BYLAWS ARTICLE I. NAME The name of this organization shall be the Clarion University Commuters, and hereafter CUC. ARTICLE II. PURPOSE The Clarion University Commuters serve all students traveling to and from campus who may want an extra connection to the campus community. The organization will work with all students to make connections with one another and hold events to promote a home away from home on Clarion University`s campus. The benefits of joining the Clarion University Commuters include: connecting with others who have similar interests and needs, identifying solutions to common problems amongst commuters, and gaining a new network of friends and professionals to work with. Students will want to join the Clarion University Commuters to express their concerns about campus and commuter life, to connect with other students, and to gain the full college experience. The purpose of the Clarion University Commuters is to connect commuter students with other commuters, students living on campus, faculty, staff, and on and off campus resources. This organization will establish a partnership with the student body and community. The Clarion University Commuters has the goal of providing and promoting a home away from home for students. This organization will also serve as an advocate for commuter students. Lastly, the organization will promote networking, mentoring, and friendship for all students. ARTICLE III. MEMBERSHIP Section 1. This organization is open to all students, however those interested in joining must be a current Clarion University student with an interest in connecting with commuter students and establishing relationships. Section 2. The Clarion University Commuters will have no membership fees. Section 3. Members may be dismissed from the club if they demonstrate poor representation of the group, student body, or university. ARTICLE IV. DUTIES AND ELECTIONS OF THE OFFICERS Section 1. Below are the officers of the Clarion University Commuters and their roles:  President: Provide overall leadership and general communication to group and organization.  Vice President: Promote the organization and coordinate new membership responsibilities.  Treasurer: Organize and manage all funds through the organization.  Secretary: In charge of the organization`s email account as well as recording minutes and organization correspondence.  University Concerns and Marketing Chair: Coordinate with faculty, staff, and students on campus regarding campus concerns and policy changes as well as promoting the organization and its events with the assistance of the vice president. Section 2. Elections for each position will occur during the beginning of each fall semester. Each position`s term will be for an entire academic year. Those wanting to become an officer as well as current members wanting to stay in their current role will need to be voted on. In the event that someone applies for more than one position and receives the most votes for both positions, he or she will get to choose which position they would like to fill. Section 3. A vote of majority will be used to assure a fair election. The majority (50 percent plus one) in agreement have the power to make decisions binding upon the whole group. ARTICLE V. ROLE OF CAMPUS ADVISOR Section 1. A faculty or staff advisor will be selected based off of their willingness to help and support commuter students. Their job is to provide overall guidance and support to the group as well as assist with budgetary concerns. At the end of each academic year the advisor will be reviewed by the group and renewed as the advisor unless the event that another advisor is sought after. Section 2. The advisor can attend meetings and events as well as advise the group and its processes. The advisor may also veto any event or activity they feel is not appropriate, but they do not have the power to vote to make decisions binding upon the whole group. ARTICLE VI. MEETINGS Section 1. Four official meetings will be held each semester, approximately one per month. Section 2. The minimum number of members to conduct business in a meeting equals the number of officers in the organization plus one. Section 3. The majority (50 percent plus one) in agreement have the power to make decisions binding upon the whole group. Section 4. To conduct an official Clarion University Commuters Meeting, the group will need to follow Robert`s Rules of Order. Section 5. Any member of the group may suggest a special meeting, with the approval of the president. To conduct a special meeting, a date, time and location must be established at least 24 hours in advance. All members of the group will be notified of the special meeting. ARTICLE VII. FINANCES AND FUNDING Section 1. There will be no dues. Section 2. The Clarion University Commuters plan to request funds from Student Senate. Section 3. The club may be self-supporting by fund-raising activities. ARTICLE VIII. AMENDING, SUSPENDING, AND ACCEPTING The Clarion University Commuter`s Bylaws can be changed by a majority vote at a regular or special meeting. Bylaws may be changed if a new officer position is created, a new policy is in place, or if membership fees become mandatory. All changes to the Bylaws must be approved by the Student Senate, the Vice President of Student Affairs, and the President of Clarion University. ARTICLE IX. RATIFICATION These Bylaws, and its amendments, shall become effective upon ratification by the members of the Clarion University Commuters and following the approval of the Student Senate of Clarion University of Pennsylvania, the Vice President for Student & University Affairs, and the President of Clarion University.
