Constitution of Clarion University Model United Nations Preamble We, the members of Clarion University Model United Nations, in order to develop an active student organization, do hereby establish this constitution. Article I. Clarion University Model United Nations The name of this organization will be Clarion University Model United Nations, herein abbreviated as CMUN. Article II. Mission Statement The purpose of CMUN is to provide college students with the chance to learn, share and talk about current global and domestic issues, the inner working of the United Nations, and group-setting communication skills, by attending the National Model United Nations Conference. Article III. Organization Functions Clarion University Model United Nations Article IV. Membership Clarion University Model United Nations will offer membership once a year, at the beginning of the fall semester. Membership will be based off of applications and interviews. All quality applicants will be accepted. Applications can be accepted on a rolling basis, though they may not be deemed eligible to to the conference, unless a member steps down from their position during the semester and a position needs to be filled. CMUN members shall: 1. 2. 3. 4. Be a full-time student Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0, be in good academic standing, and not on academic probation Plan on attending Clarion University for at least two more consecutive semesters Miss no more than three (3) meetings There are $20.00 dues due at the beginning of the school year. Article V. Executive Positions Section 1: President The President is in charge of leading meetings, calling special meetings (with at least two (2) days’ notice), and serving as the spokesperson for CMUN. The President shall also be responsible for writing, sending, and requesting of all correspondence unless otherwise noted by the CMUN. Section 2: Vice President of Service The Vice President of Service manages service opportunities and member participation. In the event that the President is unable to run the meeting, the Vice President of Service will run the meeting instead. Section 3: Treasurer The Treasurer will keep an accurate account of the CMUN accounts; they will also be expected to report on the current standing of all financial obligations and accounts at the meetings. Fundraising shall be tracked and orchestrated by the Treasurer. In the event that the Vice President of Service is unable to run the meeting, the Treasurer will run the meeting instead. Section 4: Secretary The Secretary will be responsible for recording the happenings of the meetings. The Secretary must also maintain any necessary documents and supplies. In the event that the Treasurer is unable to run the meeting, the Secretary will run the meeting instead. Article VI. Election Process Executive member positions (President, Vice President of Service, Treasurer, and Secretary) will be elected for the new term yearly by vote of the current active members. Current members may be nominated for any executive position 2 weeks prior to the election. A ballot will be composed 24 hours prior to the election for each member to fill out. Each member will receive one ballot and their votes will remain secret. The winners must receive a plurality of the votes. The current executive member positions must transition the new leaders for at least 1 week prior to turning over the position, which means shadowing them and participating in all exec position activities. Article VII. Meetings and Events Section 1: Weekly Meetings The chapter will hold weekly meetings (as one unified team) to discuss the following:       Progress on current research assignments Preparation for upcoming NMUN Conferences Fundraising updates and strategies Upcoming events and brainstorm marketing ideas Announcements/feedback from team leaders Discussion amongst group about upcoming projects, ideas, etc. Section 2: Meeting Schedule The regular meetings of the CMUN shall be held on every week that class is in session. Section 3: Special Meetings Special meetings may be arranged by the CMUN President, provided that at least two (2) days’ notice is given prior to the meeting. Section 4: Quorum Two-thirds (2/3) of the active members must be present to constitute quorum for election and official business that require a vote. To win a vote, we only need a simple majority. Article VIII. Amendments Section 1: Submission Any member of the CMUN may submit amendments of the Constitution of CMUN Section 2: Notice Any such proposed amendments of the Constitution of the CMUN shall be sent to all active members with two (2) weeks’ notice. Section 3: Ratification Must then be approved by student senate, vp of student affairs, and president of clarion university. Article IX. Statement of Compliance Clarion University Model United Nations has read and agrees to fully comply with the NMUN policies. We understand that the organization’s registration is contingent on acceptance of these policies. Article X. Ratification Section 1: Approval of the Constitution of the CMUN by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the members of the CMUN voting shall be required for the ratification of this Constitution of the CMUN. Section 2: This Constitution of the CMUN shall take precedence over any and/or all previous documents pertaining to the body and/or members of the CMUN. Section 3: Th These Bylaws, and its amendments, shall become effective upon ratification by the members of Model UN and following the approval of the Student Senate of Clarion University of Pennsylvania, the vice president for student & university affairs, and the president of Clarion University.
