2.22 Meeting Minutes Attendance: Dr. Trejos, Taylor, Brendon, Kaitlyn, Quaadire, Austin President’s Report: Let’s start with some exciting news: We received the grant from Dr. Li and the Student Research Committee! At the 2021 NMUN Conference, we will represent the delegation of Liberia. We received 6 committees. Each committee can have up to 2 delegates. Please email your preferences to Taylor at T.M.Boyle@eagle.clarion.edu by Wednesday. The committees are as follows: General Assembly First Committee 1. ________________________________________________ 2. ________________________________________________ General Assembly Second Committee 1. ________________________________________________ 2. ________________________________________________ General Assembly Third Committee 1. ________________________________________________ 2. ________________________________________________ Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS 1. ________________________________________________ 2. ________________________________________________ Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference 1. ________________________________________________ 2. ________________________________________________ United Nations Environment Assembly 1. ________________________________________________ 2. ________________________________________________ I recommend you (and your committee partner) make a gmail account for your committee. Example: liberiaunea@gmail.com There are some key dates I want everyone attending to keep in mind: March 01, 2021 – Position Papers are due to NMUN by 11:59PM, so please email them to me no later than noon on Monday, March 01, 2021 April 05-09, 2021 – Virtual NMUN Conference. The schedule has not been released, but I know they plan on condensing it more than in past years. Because it will be virtual, I will be forwarding everyone an email from NMUN so that they can test their software. The deadline to apply to be a Committee chair at the United Nations conference is March 01, 2021. Another educational feature of the conference is elevating delegates to serve as volunteer committee staff, replicating the UN system where ambassadors serve as committee chairs. Rest assured, a delegate's service in these positions in no way detracts from his/her delegation's ability to win an overall delegation award. Past Secretariat members note the strong educational value in using topical knowledge to help move forward the committee agenda. Delegates with previous committee experience (in NY or elsewhere), as well as delegates who may be interested in applying for volunteer staff positions in the future are particularly encouraged to apply to become a chairperson for their committee. A Chair works with their Director and Assistant Director to assist with procedural and administrative tasks, and helps ensure that their committee operates in a smooth and efficient manner. This position requires a working knowledge of the NMUN Rules of Procedure and a professional presence on the dais. Chair applicants should have prior Model United Nations experience, particularly at NMUN conferences. I will post the link to the application below. If you apply to be a chair, please let Dr. Trejos and I know. https://www.nmun.org/conferences/new-york/prepare-for-committee/chair.html Students not attending the conference are NOT required to write a position paper unless they want to. Any help is appreciated so if you are interested and have the time, please consider helping with the paper writing. Treasurer’s Report: N/A Secretary’s Report: none Dr. Trejos: Will contact MUN for extension on position papers due to the limited notice we received for the research grant to be able to afford virtual attendance.
