THE CONSTITUTION OF THE HIP HOP DANCE TEAM OF CLARION UNIVERSITY Article I The name of this organization shall be the Hip Hop Dance Team of Clarion University. Article II: Purposes Section 1: The Hip Hop Dance Team is formed to entertain Clarion University students and other spectators during any school or community function where entertainment is needed/requested. This includes but does not limit: the Autumn Leaf Festival (ALF) parade, the homecoming pep rally, basketball games, wrestling matches, Greek life events, ALLIES’ annual drag show, and any other event(s) in which the team is personally requested. Section 2: The Hip Hop Dance Team will increase students’ school spirit and support for Clarion University’s Golden Eagles. Members will make connections and friendships, be recognized, and allow others to see the fun in the team and join as well. Article III: Membership Section 1: Any student who is interested in becoming a member of The Hip Hop Dance Team must try out. A. B. C. D. E. Tryouts are open to all students in good standing with Clarion University; regardless of sex, age, sexual orientation, race, or ethnicity. Students wishing to try out will be judged on performance, personality, and overall dance style. Members must have a minimum of a 2.0 QPA, and this must be maintained throughout their involvement with the team. All team members, excluding the selected officers for that academic year, are to re-tryout every spring semester for the next academic year. All members must attend all practices and performances unless they have been excused by both of the captains. Section 2: There will be a $25.00 membership fee that all members are responsible for paying every year they are on the team. No member will practice or perform until the fee has been paid. Section 3: If a student is selected to join the Hip Hop Dance Team, he or she may be unable to perform at a specific event(s) for habitual absences from practices. A. B. A maximum of two (2) practices are allowed to be missed per semester. Any practices that are missed must be pre-approved by the captains 24 hours ahead of the scheduled practice. Missing more than two (2) practices or not having a legitimate justification for missing practice is not acceptable. Article IV: Duties and Elections of the Officers Section 1: Duties of the Captain (President) A. Shall run and schedule practices. The Hip Hop Dance Team of Clarion University©2019-2020 B. C. Shall attend meetings and work closely with the RSO advisor. Shall, in conjunction with the co-captain (Vice President), determine validity of absences from team practices. D. Shall be responsible for overseeing the choreography and attaining/mixing/downloading music. E. Shall oversee disciplinary actions. F. Shall sign documents as organization President. G. Shall be responsible for running CU Connect and all social media pages. Section 2: Duties of the Co-Captain (Vice President) A. B. C. Shall assist in running practices. Shall attend meetings and work closely with the RSO advisor. Shall, in conjunction with the captain (President), determine validity of absences from team practices. D. Shall be responsible for overseeing the choreography. E. Shall be responsible for taking and keeping track of practice and performance attendance. F. Shall oversee disciplinary actions. G. Shall sign documents (as necessary) as organization Vice President. Section 3: Duties of the Treasurer A. B. C. D. Section 4: Duties of Fundraising Chairperson A. B. C. Section 5: Shall be responsible for maintaining all finances such as membership dues. Shall be responsible for keeping record of all Hip Hop Dance Team expenses and revenue. Shall be responsible for yearly student senate budget application (if applicable). Shall meet with the advisor at least twice per semester to discuss the CSA account. Shall be responsible for creating and overseeing fundraising activities. Shall be responsible for working with CSA regarding fundraising activities. Shall make space requests, when necessary, to hold on-campus fundraising. Election of Officers A. B. C. D. Candidates will be nominated by themselves or existing members for the positions of Captain (President), Co-Captain (Vice President), Treasurer, and Fundraising Chairperson. Elections will take place at the end of every spring semester. Majority vote will determine the officers to assure a fair election. Graduating members are eligible to vote for the next year's officers. Article V: Role of Faculty Advisor Section 1: The advisor is a professor or professional employee of Clarion University who is interested in advising The Hip Hop Dance Team. The advisor may also voice his/her interest or concern in the organization. Section 2: The advisor can provide input, give advice, and oversee all activity, but the Executive Board will make all decisions regarding the organization. Article VI: Meetings Section 1: Practices will be held two (2) times each week (unless otherwise noted by the Captains). The Hip Hop Dance Team of Clarion University©2019-2020 Section 2: All Hip Hop Dance Team members must be present at all practices, unless they have been previously excused by the captains. Section 3: All members will vote on any decisions that need to be made; however, the Executive Board will decide on the suitability of the decisions. Section 4: General meeting procedure: The Captains will schedule and conduct each meeting/practice. Section 5: Special meetings: These meetings will be called by the Captains. A 24 hour notice will be provided to all members prior to the meeting time. No voting is required. Members will be notified by Clarion University e-mail or through the GroupMe chat. Article VII: Discrepancy Resolution Procedure Section 1: In the event that there is a discrepancy in regard to the team as a whole or to the team’s practice procedure, members are to voice the issue at the beginning of the first practice of the week. Section 2: In the event that there is a discrepancy in regard to an individual or select group of members on the team, those members are to report to an elected mediator with the issue. Section 3: The mediator is to confront the selected individuals and correct the discrepancy immediately. Section 4: The mediator is a team member, usually the Captain, who is elected at the time of officer elections. He/she is to keep all discrepancies completely confidential and professional. Section 5: In the event that confidential information is released by the mediator to others outside of the discrepancy, he/she will be immediately removed from the position and elections will be held at the next practice or meeting to select another team member for the mediator position. Article VIII: Finances and Funding Section 1: Each member will pay a $25.00 membership fee every fall semester. Section 2: Funds will be applied from the Student Senate after submitting a budget request in the Spring semester for necessary supplies for the team (if applicable). Section 3: The organization will support its activities self-sufficiently through semester fundraisers. Article IX: Amending, Suspending, and Accepting In order to change the Constitution of the Hip Hop Dance Team, ALL members must vote. All amendments must be approved by 66% of the organization’s members and by CU Student Senate. Article X: Ratifications The affairs of the organization shall be governed as outlined in the above stated Constitution effective upon adoption by the members of the Hip Hop Dance Team at the meeting and then approved by the Student Senate, the Vice President or Student Affairs, and the President of Clarion University.
