Clarion University In-Line Hockey Club Bylaws Article 1 - Name The name of this organization shall be the Clarion University In-line Hockey Club (CUIHC). Article 2 - Purpose The CUIHC is being formed to give students at Clarion University the chance to participate in Inline Hockey at the club level. We believe that this club will be a great addition to the University where in-line hockey was previously unavailable. This club will allow students to either learn to play in-line hockey or help teach others how to play. The members of the club are always incredibly supportive and wish to help any newcomers to the sport or club. The club will also help with teambuilding and competition as hockey is a very team-based sport. Our wish is that every student who joins the club will achieve whatever goals they have regarding in-line hockey. The purpose of the CUIHC is also to help students enhance their physical condition and performance. We hope that once given recognition as a club sport, more students will want to get involved somehow with the in-line hockey club and provide more support. Article 3 - Membership The following qualifications are needed to join the club: 1. Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA or higher. This shows that the student can handle both school and extracurricular activities. 2. The club is open to freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. 3. There are no major recommendations. 4. Members are required to attend all meetings. (Meetings are usually once a month.) 5. You MUST be currently enrolled as a student at Clarion University **Since hockey is considered a high-risk sport, all members are REQUIRED to have proof of medical insurance. Membership dues are required at the start of each school year. Dues will be $150 for those without jerseys, and $200 for new members who wish to purchase a jersey. (DUES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.) Members of the club will be dismissed for any of the following reasons: 1. 2. 3. 4. Underage drinking/substance abuse or drinking related reprimands Cheating or other disciplinary actions taken by the University/Police Failure to be present at meetings or games Failure to maintain a 2.0 GPA Article 4 - Duties and Elections of the Officers President – Oversees club activities/acts as main representative to University and Community Vice President – Assists President and oversees regulation of membership Treasurer – Manages the club’s funds Captain – Manages team on the rink/acts as leader during games Alternate Captain – Assists captain during games/takes over as acting captain if the captain is unable to attend a game Leadership and officers will be established in the beginning of each year. In the beginning of each year, the team will take a vote to determine the year’s captain and alternate captain(s). Article 5 - Role of Campus Advisor The club leadership will determine the advisor of the club. If at any time, a new advisor is needed, the officers will develop a list of possible candidates to be voted upon by the club leadership. The advisor will ensure that all rules and regulations required by the club and the university are followed properly. If any disciplinary actions are necessary, the advisor may remove any individual or party from the club. The advisor may offer any other advice or ideas to help the club as needed. Article 6.-Meetings Meetings are generally planned as needed but will be announced with at least one week of notice. All meetings are held in the afternoon. Although meetings are planned as needed, there is always a meeting the first week of each semester and once a month. Majority will rule in all voting conducted at meetings. Members are allowed and encouraged to voice their opinions on improving the club at meetings. Meetings are generally open discussion style allowing all members’ voices to be heard. Meetings can be called by any club member. If you wish to hold a club meeting, first contact the president. If approved by the president and vice president, all club members will be contacted. All meetings are required unless a legitimate excuse is presented to the President or Vice President. Multiple absences may result in removal from the club. Article 7 - Finances and Funding There WILL be membership dues at the start of every school year. Dues will be around $100 but are subject to change based on factors such as gas prices, league fee, or budget. The club will receive funding from the student senate at the beginning of each school year. These funds will help with the cost of the league fee, transportation, or any other necessary costs relation to attending games. The club is NOT completely self-supporting. On top of the money from student senate and membership dues, fundraising is expected and required of all club members. Article 8 - Amending, Suspending, and Accepting The bylaws can be changed under the following circumstances: - An issue that is not addressed in the current bylaws arises If the current bylaws do not address matters that arise during club activity The bylaws require a 2/3 majority vote from the entire membership at that time. The student senate, VP of student affairs, and the President of Clarion University must approve all changes or additions to the bylaws. Article 9 - Ratification These bylaws, and it’s amendments, will go into effect after ratification by the members of the Clarion University In-line Hockey Club and following approval from the Student Senate here at Clarion University, VP of student affairs, and the President of Clarion University.
