TRMC Minutes 10/12 TRMC Updates: ● Good job on breast cancer awareness bake sale ● Officers met with other science clubs and got tentative date for Narcan training (2 possible weekends after spring break) on a Saturday. It lasts 30 minutes. Speakers in the morning, food (catered by chartwells), training in afternoon. All kits are free. Speaker ideas: Dr. Lupore, Ben’s mom, police officer, criminal justice, recovering addict. Join narcan committee if interested. ● Flu basket committee: what day you free to meet? We need local businesses to donate to the baskets. ● Tentative money raised from breast cancer bake sale: $70 ish including change Paige gave us Journal Club: ● Dr. Brzoza-Lewis presenting her paper on October 26th ● Food???? ● Dr. Smith present definitely last week before Thanksgiving. ● Carrie, remind Dr. Smith to get TRMC email list from you. Smith Lab: ● Compound P did distillation last week. Thanks for the pee, RJ! ● Bd waiting on supplies ● HSC got contaminated. Contamination: throw in biohazard, tell lab mates, clean everything around it. ● Jake had some contamination but has it under control. ● Sami checked veros, and they seem fine so we should be safe but y’all need to wipe down the inside of the incubator. ● IMPORTANT: someone unplugged Dr. Dias’ incubator. Super not okay. You must be observant in the lab, especially around electrical plugs. Do not unplug anything in the cell culture room. It’s someone in here! NEW RULE: you can only charge your phone at the desks in the main lab (right next to the windows). ● Prep room needs to remove biohazard from all labs. This is a requirement! They smell real bad and we can’t have biohazard growing! Dr. Smith told Scott lab that they should take care of their own biohazard box. We should all know how to take care of biohazard since we are all creating biohazardous waste. So, ask upperclassmen how to take care of biohazard when you see a full box. ● Prep room is missing oven mitts. Leave the oven mitts in the prep room! ● Jake: data says they are way above the threshold of appropriate dosage of acetaminophen before causing liver damage. So, that is a good sign! They will be meeting with someone and possibly testing on dorsal ganglia cells. Must be rat. ● PRP is doing a dissection next week! Brody got his flu shot!!!! ● Dental biofilm: CDA strain shows oral streptococcus. Ran catalase test: showed negative. ● Animal room: 2 pregnant moms had litters. 22 new babies. A mouse died and was pregnant, had stillborn babies. Dr. Brzoza-Lewis recommended euthanization, so RJ and Paige put her down. ● IT’S BASIL’S 2ND BIRTHDAY!! He’s our oldest rat!
