Sociology Club of Clarion University Constitution ARTICLE I.-NAME. The name of this organization shall be the Sociology Club of Clarion University. This organization will have ties to the American Sociological Association. Sociology Club of Clarion University may be abbreviated to SCCU. ARTICLE II.- PURPOSE This organization was founded to give fellowship and unite Sociology majors and those with an interest in the sociological field. Sociology Club of Clarion University will give participants a chance to improve their personal and professional career through discussion on current and prevalent social issues in campus society and beyond. The organization will attempt to give Sociology majors and those with an interest in the sociological field a chance to attend professional meetings offered in the sociology field. Providing chances for professional contacts with other collegiate clubs and workers in the field will be another goal. Sociology Club of Clarion University can also serve as a resource for academic support and guidance among peers to develop towards career goals. Sociology Club of Clarion University also encourages members to be active in community service and philanthropy. ARTICLE III.- MEMBERSHIP Section 1. Sociology Club of Clarion University finds that the organization will be open to all students of Clarion University regardless of academic field or Quality Point Average. Membership will be open to any student, graduate student, or faculty member at Clarion University. A student must be of part-time or full-time status and in good academic standing in the standards of Clarion University. Former Sociology Club of Clarion University members that are alumni of Clarion University may become non-voting members. Section 2. Sociology Club of Clarion University finds that it will have no membership fee as of 13​th February 2015. Section 3. Sociology Club of Clarion University finds members of the Sociology Club of Clarion University will be dismissed and have their membership revoked for any of the following reasons: 1 A. Change in graduate status.​ ​Mild change in enrollment status such as: a student choosing to voluntarily end their enrollment at Clarion University. B. Negative change in academic status such as: a student being placed on academic probation. ARTICLE IV.- DUTIES AND ELECTIONS OF THE OFFICERS. Section 1. A. President 1. Shall preside over all general and executive board meetings for Sociology Club of Clarion University. 2. Shall establish and oversee all activities. 3. Shall work closely with the advisor and faculty of the Sociology department in planning activities. 4. Shall have an automatic vote of abstention unless to break a tie vote. B. Vice- President 1. Shall assist the President in all matters entailed in Sociology Club of Clarion University. 2. Shall preside over all general and executive board meetings in the absence of the President. 3. Shall serve as the acting President in case of a vacancy in the office of the President for the rest of the term. 4. Shall serve as acting Parliamentarian, in which they will make sure the Constitution and procedures is followed. C. Secretary 1. Shall keep a running log of all Sociology Club of Clarion University meetings. 2. Shall act as Community Service Chairperson. 3. Shall be the main correspondence of the organization. 4. Shall keep an active membership file and record all membership 5. Shall keep the club Constitution up-to-date and be responsible for yearly amendments of the Constitution 6. Shall keep record of all policy actions. D. Treasurer 2 1. Shall keep documented record of Sociology Club of Clarion University’s income and disbursements, pay bills upon authorization, and present the financial report at each Sociology Club of Clarion University meeting. 2. Shall conduct organization of a financial budget proposal to Student Senate. 3. Shall prepare a financial report for the end of the year. 4. Shall research expenses to and from professional meetings affiliated with the American Sociological Association or other various. Section 2. A. Election of Officers a. To qualify for a position of officership a student must have a 2.0 QPA. b. Nominations can entail any active member of Sociology Club of Clarion University. B. Qualification of President a. To qualify for the position of President of Sociology Club of Clarion University a student must be affiliated with the Sociology department through a major or minor. C. Qualification of Vice-President a. To qualify for the position of President of Sociology Club of Clarion University a student must be affiliated with the Sociology department through a major or minor. Section 3. A. The majority shall be recognized as a vote by two thirds (2/3) of attendees to vote in nominations for officership in Sociology Club of Clarion University. ARTICLE V.-ROLE OF CAMPUS ADVISOR. Section 1. A. The advisor must be a member of the Sociology department and invited by the club. Section 2. A. The Sociology Club of Clarion University asks that the advisor be available to offer career and academic insight specific to the Sociological field. 3 B. The advisor will be a non-voting member. ARTICLE VI.-MEETINGS. Section 1. A. The Sociology Club of Clarion University shall have a minimum of (2) meetings a month. Section 2. A. The Sociology Club of Clarion University shall have quorum of seven (7) people established for vote on all policy discussions. 1. If the amount of quorum of seven (7) people is not established a meeting can still take place but no voting decisions will be made. Section 3. A. The majority shall be recognized as a vote by two thirds (2/3) of attendees. Section 4. A. All general and executive board meetings will be conducted according to ​Robert’s Rules of Order​ by Henry Martin Robert. Will have precedence. B. All general and executive board meetings will also be conducted according to ​The Sociology Club Guide​ from the American Sociological Association. Section 5. A. The faculty advisor or the President of Sociology Club of Clarion University is given the authority to call a specialized meeting in formal or informal manners. B. Specialized meetings can be conducted in the manner of one-on-one or group meetings. ARTICLE VII.-FINANCES AND FUNDING. Section 1. A. Sociology Club of Clarion University finds that it will have no membership fee as of 13​th​ February 2015. Section 2. 4 A. The Sociology Club of Clarion University finds that when it reaches the amount of membership required to request funds, from Student Senate of Clarion University, they will attempt to do so. B. The requests will entail funding requests for department field trips, film screenings, colloquiums, guest speakers, guest lecturers, department awards, department competitions, philanthropy projects, for trips to the American Sociological Association’s Annual or Regional Meetings. Section 3. A. Various fundraisers will be an attempt for Sociology Club of Clarion University to accrue funds of its own for use labeled as Self-Supporting. ARTICLE VIII.-AMENDING, SUSPENDING, AND ACCEPTING. Section 1. A. Any rule within the constitution may be suspended if certain conditions are met: a. Following normal rules or order would be frivolous or delay the proceedings and functionality of Sociology Club of Clarion University. b. The end of the semester is near and elections cannot be held within the given timeframe. c. Unforeseen circumstances that result in the need to suspend the rules. Section 2. A. To suspend the rules: a. At least one of the three conditions listed in Article VIII Section 1A must be met: b. The president must be present, as well as the faculty, who is permitted to vote on the motion to suspend the rules. c. A two-thirds vote in the affirmative must occur. i. Should the faculty vote in the negative, their negative vote acts as a veto, effectively stopping the motion to suspend, regardless of the outcome. 5 ii. The motion to suspend lasts only until the matter at hand is effectively dealt with, at which point the rules will be considered “reinstated.” Section 3. A. All changes to the rules within the constitution must be approved by Student Senate, the Vice President of Student Affairs, and the President of Clarion University. ARTICLE IX.-RATIFICATION. Section 1. A. These ​Bylaws​, and its amendments, shall become effective upon ratification by the members of Sociology Club of Clarion University and following the approval of the Student Senate of​ ​Clarion University of Pennsylvania, the vice president for student & university affairs, and the president of Clarion University. ______________________________________________________________________________ These Mock Bylaws was formed from the various guidelines to constructing an organization’s Bylaws and statements were taken from outstanding organizational Bylaws currently recognized by the Student Senate. Student Organization must function in compliance with their approved Bylaws. Any adopted changes to the Bylaws by a student organization must have the written approval of the Student Senate, the Vice President of Student Affairs, and the President of Clarion University before they may be implemented 6
