1 Cadi McCoy Interview 1. Can you tell me your name, hometown, major(s) and minor(s), and what year were you crowned? a. My name is Cadi McCoy. I’m from Meadville, PA. My major is public health, pre-PA and my minor is adapted physical activity 2. What was your biography while you are in college? What activities were you involved in at SRU? a. I'm the vice president of women's club volleyball team, I'm a jump start mentor, and I'm the secretary of Black Action Society (BAS). 3. What did being a homecoming queen mean to you? a. It means a lot to me because it's historical here, I made a mark at Slippery Rock. It means people have respect for me here and I am better known than what I thought. 4. How did you end up running? a. Since I am the secretary of BAS and the secretary last year, Tori Hill won queen so they decided I should run this year. And then they nominated Millie as well to run with me. 5. How did you guys campaign? a. Tori Hill took campaign pictures of me and Millie together. Then Tori, the public relations chair for BAS, and I met up and made posters. We printed out a big poster like the ones that hang in the student center on the glass windows, we had a poster on the TVs in the Student Center, and we handed out post card size posters. We didn't really do a lot compared to some of the others who were giving away pizza and cookies and snacks and stuff. 6. Did you guys use social media at all? a. Oh yeah I posted it every day on snapchat, Instagram. I posted it on Facebook, on twitter. I had all my roommates post it and people reposted it from them. People ad it on their own snapchat stories and retweeted it a bunch. My partner was on the football team so he had that portion down. 7. Before the election, what did you think your chances were? a. I knew that I knew a lot of people, have a lot of friends and I'm a very personable person. I thought well I could run and maybe make court. I didn't think that was too farfetched. Not when it came to winning though. Everyone else knew. Everyone kept telling me oh you'll be fine, it's fine you're going to win. And I'm like I don't know how people can be so sure of that. Of course when it's not them they think the best. Honestly I really didn't know. I was hoping but I really didn't know how it was going to go. I didn't know who was going to be running against me and how well they were known. It was a surprise. Not to other people but to me. I was happy. 2 8. Why do you think you won? a. I think that I probably won because I'm a pretty diverse person around campus. I'm a people person so I've met people in so many different ways cause I'm a part of so many different clubs and organizations around campus. Once you meet one person you meet another and another. If I see you, I smile and say hi cause I know who you are. I remember everybody I meet. I'd say I'm well liked enough. 9. What did your family think of your victory? a. They were really happy. My mom cried. My little sister was really really happy to see her big sister win. My brother already figured I'd win because I am his big sister and he thinks highly of me. They were all really happy and excited. My entire family was really excited. My uncles, my aunts, my grandparents. So it was really nice. 10. How has your college experience changed since being elected? a. A lot more people come up to me and congratulate me. Some people will call me Queen Cadi or just Queen. There's people that I haven't seen or talked to in awhile that will say hi to me. It's a humbling experience because you don't expect it to happen to you. So you when it happens to you you don't know how to react except to be excited about it. But then when people continually congratulate you and are proud of you for it it makes you feel like you did something. It's a positive change. 11. Do you think it’ll effect you after college at all? If so, how do you think it would? a. This is definitely something I will remember for the rest of my life. This is college, this could possibly be your last set of education so it will continue to affect me because it's such an honor. An honor to be nominated let alone winning. I know that I can do anything I put my mind to. If I really want to achieve something I can. That is what I will take from all this. 12. Do you plan to come back for any future homecomings? a. We're required to come back for the next homecoming. That's one of the requirements if we were to win we have to come back to crown the next queen and for the parade. 13. Are you excited about that? a. I am. I'm excited to see who's running next year and who wins. Tori Hill was kind of my mentor in this and she was super excited that I was running and had a great feeling about me winning. Maybe I can mentor them how she did me. I'm definitely excited. Homecoming is always so positive.
