Stephen Beck Papers, 1955-1998
Biography
Stephen Beck was born March 29, 1930, in Brooklyn, NY. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in
Mathematics at Tufts University, his Master’s in Applied Mathematics at Iowa State University,
and his Doctorate in Mechanics at Rensselear Polytechnic Institute. Prior to becoming the
chairman at the Mathematics department at Bloomsburg State College in 1971, he worked for the
federal government as a research mathematician. He served on the Bloomsburg Town Council
and with the Boy Scouts of America. Beck passed away on December 11, 2007.
