BLOOMSBURG STATE CO.LLEGE Senior Captain Steve Schultz ยท GOLF 1983 Outlook Rookie golf coach Bill Sproule expects his Husky squad, who went 6-3 last season, to be one of the top three or four teams in the conference. "Our il')'lmediate concern," says Sproule, "is to replace four of our top golfers from last year." Captain Steve Schultz is expected to at least partially fill the void left by graduation. The senior three-year letterman was an AllAmerican at Towanda High School and has consistently scored low for the Huskies. Bil I McGinnis sports a handicap of six, which is second onl, to Schultz's two handicap. Other upperclassmen hoping to claim the top spots are Larry Ebeling, Bob Emert, Mike Keech, Pete Sobrinsky, and Greg Zahour. "On any given day, each of these players are capable of being a medalist," says Sproule. "Of course the key to our success will beto have them all scoring consistently low." Sproule is also happy to have a good crop of freshmen to incorporate into the team. "We have some very promising newcomers who should all see action this year," states the new coach . Steve Reich, Mike Everson, Jon Robinson, Jim Lawler, and Tom Reagan all have the potential to develop into leaders on the course. "With the way we set up qualifying rounds for each match's lineup, we force each player to get better," says Sproule. "We feel we will have a good team this year so we have expanded our schedule to include a larger quantity of and better quality matches. Head Coach Bill Sproule enters his first year at the helm for the Huskies. He has been a member of the BSC Health and Physical Education staff since 1969 and has taught golf classes for the past ten years at the school. He was also a member of the Cherokee Golf League for five years (1975-80) and was chairman in 1977. Sproule, a former outstanding football player on the 1959 and 1960 Syracuse teams that performed in the Orange and Cotton Bowls, he was BSC's head football coach from 1971 to 1975. Since that time the Coalsdale native had been directing the school's intramural program until 1979. Sproule earned his Phd. in Physical Education at Penn State University in May, 1982. Last year's head man, Bob Reeder, will return this season to assist Sproule.
