This could prove to be a difficult task, especially meeting West Chester S.C., the 1967 State College Conference Champions; Lock Haven S.C., PSCAC runners-up; Cheyney S.C.; Millersville S.C. ; Mansfield S.C.; Kutztown S.C. All these teams defeated BSC in 1967. East Stroudsburg S.C. is now running an indoor track program and should be vastly improved. However, with this challenge, the times and distances of BSC should improve over last year. · John Montgomery, N.C.A.A. Eastern Regional third place finisher in the high iump last year will be greatly missed as well as Stan Kucharski, a ten-flat sprinter, and Tom Fowles, shot putter and discus thrower. Returning lettermen who will figure prominently on this year's team are: Tom Houston, fourth in state meet hurdles; Tom Estep, third in state meet iavelin; Dave Shell, javelin; Vic Keeler, sprinter; Jim Gauger, hurdler; Chuck Bowman, Charles Shupe, and Frank Matthews, distance runners and Mike Parich, shotput. Rising sophomores who should add some strength are: Greg Berger, sprinter-hurdler; Len Diehl and Mark Yanchek, high iump; Carl Wilde, pole vault; Craig Shotwell, broad iumperiavelin; Dave Smithers, triple iump and 880 yards; John Luczysyn, Bernie Curran, and Arnie Thompson, sprints. These boys are from the undefeated freshman team of 1967. New candidates who should be of great help are: Sam Jayne, shot and discus; Jim Levan and Nick Holodick, sprinters; Palmer Toto and Bob Matuza and Russ Shields, iumps; Charles Moyer, Tom Henry, and Bob Matukaites, distance runners. A fine group of freshmen should provide a competitive force in all their meets. Members of this group who bear watching are: Rich Barber, R. D. Boonton; Gary Bennett, Elk Mountain; Bruce Bittner, Newlin; Richard Brand, Pennsburg; James Carlin, Drexel Hill; Jim Cavallero, Metuchen, N. J.; Richard Geise, Danville; Mike Horbal, Woodbridge, N. J.; Mike Kolojechick, Swoyersville; Ted Lawson, Chester; John Masters, FortyFort; Bruce McCracken, Chambersburg; Richard McKean, Colonia, N. J.; Jim McLaughlin, Philadelphia; George Mrochko, Wilkes-Barre; John Olaynick, Allentown; John Reeves, Philadelphia; Mark Sepkowski, S. Plainfield, N. J.; Adam Skelding, Metuchen, New Jersey. TRACH COACH RONALD PUHL Ronald Puhl joined the Bloomsburg State College faculty and coaching staff in September of 1966. In addition to his teaching assignments in health and physical education, he also serves as head track coach and varsity backfield football coach. A native of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, he was a three letter winner in football, swimming, and field and track while at Lock Haven State College from 1957 to 1961. He began his coaching career at the Phoenixville Area Senior High School where he served as varsity track and field coach for four years, assistant wrestling coach for one year, head gymnastics coach for three years, and varsity backfield coach for several vears. He was named to the NAIA "Little All-American Team" in 1960 for football and was a Pennsylvania State College Champion in the 220-yard low hurdles in 1961. Puhl is an excellent conditioner of men and has the ability to bring out in his team members a great desire to win. TRACK SCHEDULE April 3-West Chester ........ . ............
