- - 1986 Spring Outlook- The Huskies return with five of their top seven players from last year's lineup. Added to this will be a freshman who is expected to immediately break into one of the top six spots. All this should give the team the strength needed to improve on last year's 23-7 dual match mark. The team continued its success in the fall season with a dual match record of 4-0. This extended their fall winning streak to 65 consecutive wins. But tournament play proved to be the Huskies undoing as they finished last in two eight-team fields. Both the Bloomsburg Invitational and the Navy Tournament were loaded with strong NCAA Division I teams, but if the Huskies are to live up to expectations, they must be able to compete at that level. The schedule for the spring has been improved and a total of 13 Division I schools along with Division ll's number two ranked team Hampton and fourteenth ranked Mercyhurst to be included. The Huskies will also face a tough Division Ill team Swarthmore which is ranked number one in the division, along with the Pennsylvania Conference opposition. Coach Burt Reese's unit will be out to achieve three major goals as the season rolls around with the annual "southern swing" in mid-March. In addition to a "solid" dual match record, BU will be seeking to win its sixth PC title in the last eight years in addition to having one or more players earn an invitation to the NCAA Division II Championships for the seventh time in the last nine years. Coach Burt Reese Burt Reese is entering his 18th season at the helm of the Huskies. In his previous 17 years, the team has compiled an enviable record of 248-100 for a .713 winning percentage. He is currently the regional chairman for the East Region on the NCAA Division II Tennis Committee. He is also an active member of the Intercollegiate Tennis Coaches - - - - - Association. In the Pennsylvania Conference, Reese has coached 40 singles and doubles champions and five of the last nine seasons has been choosen as the PC "Coach of the Year." In 1981, he was selected as the Central Pennsylvania Tennis Association "Coach of the Year." In 1983, he added another credential to his long list of accomplishments when Dave Superdock and Marty Coyne became Bloomsburg's first tennis All-Americans. Reese, a native of Taylor, Pa., earned both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees at East Stroudsburg State College where he co-captained the tennis and basketball teams. While working on his master's degree, he helped coach the tennis and basketball teams as a graduate assistant. Then he joined the faculty at Old Forge High School, where he was an assistant football and basketball coach. He moved on to Abington Heights High School and served as athletic director and initiated and coached varsity tennis to a 45-6 record before coming to Bloomsburg. He has been ranked among the top ten singles players in the Middle States Tennis Association and was a member of the top three doubles teams several times in the past.
