~\\oMSB(J~ ~ STATE ~ COLLEGE MEN'S TENNIS 1978-79 OUTLOOK The 1978-79 edition of Husky tennis will have its work cut out if it is to equal last year's 19-7 record. Coach Burt Reese has lost four of his top six players including Jim Hollister, the winningest player in BSC history with 95 career wins . But, with the addition of one freshman and a transfer, the Huskies should continue their winning ways. Reese indicates that it would be great if the team could duplicate or better last year's accomplishments of a trip to San Diego for Division II Nationals, second in the Eastern Intercollegiate to E. Tennessee State, second at the ECAC Tourney to Temple and second in the Pennsylvania Conference. In the fall season, the team had a 4-0 dual match record. At the fall ECAC tournament, which included 39 east coast schools, the team finished a strong fourth. The Huskies were able to finish fourth in their own powerful .BSC Invitational which was won by national power Hampton Institute. The spring season appears to be as challenging as ever with several Division I teams appearing on the schedule including Navy, Richmond, William & Mary, Penn State, Temple, Lehigh and West Chester. There are many more challenging matches on the schedule. There will not be a senior on the team but it will be a veteran one. If everyone plays up to his ability, BSC should record its eighth consecutive winning season. COACH BURT REESE Entering his 11th season as coach of the Huskies, Coach Burt Reese expects another good year. He has compiled a 1.11-48 record for a 69% winning average. In 1977 he was named Pennsylvania Conference "Coach of the Year". A native of Taylor, Pa., he earned both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees at East Stroudsburg State College where he co-captained the tennis and basketball teams. While working on his master's degree, he helped coach the tennis and basketball teams as a graduate assistant. He then joined the faculty of Old Forge High School becoming an assistant coach in both basketball and football. He served as athletic director at Abington Heights High School where he initiated and coached varsity tennis to a 45-6 record. He was also in charge of junior high basketball. Reese, who is a teaching professional in the summer, is active in the Middle States as a player and official. As a player, he normally had a men's singles ranking every year and has been ranked in the top ten in the M.S.T.A. in singles and has been in the top three doubles teams for several years. Currently he is a board member of the Central Pennsylvania Tennis Patrons Association and a director of the Central Pennsylvania Tennis Association. He is also the chairman of the tennis committee for the ECAC Division II and Ill which is the largest conference in the country. Reese has also served as assistant basketball coach since his arrival on campus. THE PLAYERS THAT MAKE IT HAPPEN ROB VANCE - junior - Phoenixville , PA. This is the third year for Rob.
