New Coach Jerry Thomas started working his squad in early March in practice areas near the college. With several key members of last year's varsity returning, the hopes of equalling or topping last year's 6-2 record looks encouraging. However, this year's schedule will provide a real test as only three matches are on the home course. Six away matches should give the team a good variety of play and contribute to a strong showing at Hershey May 12 and 13 at the Pennsylvania State Colleg Tournament. On the basis of last year's performances, it seems certain that Albert Fisher, Jim Masich, and Tom Castrilli will be the nucleus of the 1968 team. Another member of last year's varsity, Ron Buffington, and last year's leading freshman player, John Marshall, also appear to be solid performers for the coming season. The competition for the remaining positions should be among Jeff Hock, Bob Snyder, Warren Frantz (all members of the 1967 freshman squad) and Bob Simmons, former district 13 high school golf champion. Susquehanna University and Kings College, a]ong with Mansfield S. C., head a list of former opponents for the Huskies. Several outstanding freshmen candidates will participate in a schedule of five matches. Coach Jerry Thomas' excellent knowledge of the game could prove to be a valuable asset to the Huskies this season. GOLF COACH Jerry R. Thomas Jerry Thomas ioined the Bloomsburg State College Faculty in September of 1967. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health and Physical Education and also serves as an Assistant Football Coach. A native of Birmingham, Alabama, _h e received his B.A. from Furman University where he lettered three years in varsity football. Coach Thomas received his M.A. from the University of Alabama and is now completing work on his Ed.D in Health and Physical Education at Alabama. Prior to coming to Bloomsburg; he served as Chairman of the Division of Health, Physical Education and Recreation; Athletic Director, and Golf Coach at Jefferson State Junior College in Birmingham, Alabama. An outstanding golfer, Thomas will be advising the team on many fine points of the game.
