The Huskies recorded 8 wins, 4 losses and third place in the Pennsylvaruia State College Championship meet It was the first winning ,se,a son .a,t B.S.C. since swimming was inaugurated .i n 1'959. Foremost in vhe minds c.f Eh McLaughlin 0ind his tankmen is to win the Pennsylvania Sba.te 'College Championshtps which will be held rut Bloorns~ burg March 10 and 11, 1967. 1 1 1 1 McLaughlin has had Ms team wor~ing out for <the past ·s ix weeks in prepa,r at ion for the opener ,a gainst the strong Temple Universitty ,team, Decemlber 3, at Philadelphia. The Huskies, who have been working hard, ,s hould ,be ready to battle the Temple Owls on more even terms than !in the past. Returning 1-ettermen include: John Biggs, Don Beaulieu, Fred Bausch, Walt Fischl, and J,jm Poechmann. Free styler John Biggs rep,r esented B.IS.C. in i!Jhe N.A .I.A. meet last spring at Oonway, Arkansas. He turned in •a commendalble performance in both the 50 and 100 yard freestyle events. Moving up from last ye,a r's undefeaited freshman ·t eam a.re Wtilliam Hitchings, Bruce Bendel, Tim Oarr, Ed McN'e1,tney, J'im RJi:sser, ,a nd Mike Zukov:ich. A newcomer to the squad is sophomore Tom Hous·ton. These twelve swimmers will be expected to carry ·,the loa-d this year for the Maroon and Go'1d. Coach McLaughlin s,tates, "We will lack the depth to have a great ,t eam, but we do have bebter balance and more st,reng,tih ·than we have had in the past. Every man will have to perform in several events this yeaa·." As 'in the pa;s,t two years, freshmen will not be used on the v,a rsity but will hiave eight separtalte meebs. They have been training with the varsity daily and have displayed the spirtt ,a nd enthustasm 1that could spell anoither undefeated se•a son for the Husky Pups. Although McLaughlin feels ,tna;t B.6.C.'s s1wimming teams are improving, he also points out the other teams in t.he P .S.C.A.C. are gaining in strength. The Hl\ls~ies face priactically the same opponenrts as last year and McIJaughlin and the squa;d ,a re look•ing lforward t,o an interes1bing and very competitive year in swiimming. 1 ELI McLAUGHLIN VARSITY SWIMMING COACH Eli McLaughlin will be starting his sixth season ,as head coach of the Husky swimmers since joining 1tthe Bloomsburg s1t,a te College f,a cul1ty 1and coachdng staff i1n September, 1961. Af,ter gra,duatiion from nigh school, McLaughlin s,taI'!ted his college career ,ait We,s1t Chester State College in 1949. A veteran olf military service, he was a ,s ergea.nit with the Un,ited ,Sbates Air Force, and as Director ,of Slpecial Serv,ices ait Edward:s Air Force Base .i n Californta, he organized, directed, and pairtic,ip,aited ,in the sporbs prngram. Returning to West Chester College in 1953, he was an out standing center for three years on the R,am's squad and served one year as line co,ach for ·bhe freshman ,t eam before ,g:mdll!ating in 1 1 1957. .
