Urbanick, of Cambridge Springs, graduated summa cum laude with dual certification in elementary education and mentally and physically handicapped education. A participant in the University Honors Program, she served as vice president of Sigma Pi Epsilon Honor Society for Special Education, and was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, Alpha Chi and the American Scholars national honor societies. She was a member of the Student Chapter of the Pa. State Education Association, as well as the Council for Exceptional Children and the Pa. Science Teachers Association. Her volunteer service included the Dr. Gertrude A. Barber Center, Erie Homes for Children & Adults, Shriners Hospitals for Children, Special Olympics, Cambridge Springs Public Library, and Waterford Elementary School. She was also a tutor in Cambridge Springs schools and Hermitage House. Macfarlane, of Bradford, graduated summa cum laude with a major in English and concentration in literature. A University Honors Program participant, he held a Presidential Scholarship and was named to the Dean’s List in each of his semesters at Edinboro. He was a member of Sigma Tau Delta National Honor Society in English, and in his senior year was named the outstanding literature major by the department of English and theatre arts. He plans on continuing studies for an advanced degree in philosophy and is considering a career as a university professor. Tom Ridge and confirmed by the state Senate to continuing terms as trustees of the University. Reappointed to another six-year term was Harry K. Thomas, Esq., a 1963 Edinboro graduate and a partner in the Erie law firm of Knox Graham McLaughlin Gomall and Sennett. An Edinboro trustee since 1983, Thomas is currently serving his second term as Council chairperson. Also reappointed was Meadville native Benedict J. Miceli, who has been an Edinboro trustee since 1995. Retiring in 1999 as a longtime Meadville business owner and operator, he remains active as community leader and volunteer throughout Crawford County. Mrs. Patricia Barber Heasley, a 1962 Edinboro education alumna, has been a trustee since 1988 and currently teaches at Glenwood Elementary School in the School District of the City of Erie. Over the last five decades, 16 members of her family have attended Edinboro: among them her aunt, the late Dr. Gertrude A. Barber, and her father, John Barber, who quarterbacked the Edinboro football team at the 1927 homecoming game. John E. Horan, who was appointed last year to fill a vacancy on the Council, is the executive director and secretary of the Housing Authority of the City of Erie, a position he has held since 1977. Benjamin Wiley, executive director of the Greater Erie Community Action Committee (GECAC), was reappointed earlier this year by Gov. Ridge. An Edinboro trustee since 1983 and chair of the Council from 1994 to 1999, Wiley has also been a member of the Board of Governors for the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education since 1995, serving as that Board’s vice chair since 1996. The state Senate confirmed the reappointments of Thomas, Miceli, Heasley and Horan on April 24, while Wiley’s appointment was confirmed on March 27. Trustees at Edinboro University and the other 13 institutions in Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education are nominated and appointed to six-year terms of office by the governor of the Commonwealth with the advice and consent of the state Senate. A 1986 Edinboro University alumnus, Robb was president during his senior year of the school’s Criminal Justice Club, which co-sponsored Criminal Justice Day. He is currently assigned to the DEA’s Washington Division and is working on an international drug ring case.
