Founded in 1998, the Foreign Language Studies Scholarship assists outstanding students of foreign languages with their educational expenses and vc nis primarily funded through donations and payroll deductions from foreign language faculty to the University’s Annual Fund. Students interested in applying for the scholarship must be foreign language majors or minors with a 3.0 GPA in foreign language study, as well as in all university coursework, and must have completed 64 credit hours by the scholarship award date. Students must complete an application and secure a letter of recommendation from a faculty member of the foreign language department. HERBERT TOLBERT TO HEAD EDINBORO UNIVERSITY’S ENROLLMENT MANGEMENT AND RETENTION UNIT Edinboro University of Pennsylvania President Frank G. Pogue has appointed Dr. J. Herbert Tolbert to be the school’s new associate vice president for enrollment management and retention. Tolbert is currently assistant vice president of marketing and enrollment management for LeTourneau University in Texas, serving both the school of graduate and professional studies and the undergraduate campus. In making the announcement. President Pogue cited Tolbert’s ten years of experience in higher education in enrollment management and marketing: “Dr. Tolbert brings to Edinboro University an extensive background in student recruitment and retention, marketing, and administration. He will be a key player in the University’s growth to our enrollment goal of 8,000 students.” Tolbert earned a bachelor’s degree from Seattle Pacific University in 1978, a master’s degree from Western Oregon University in 1990, and a doctorate in education from Nova Southeastern University in 1999. He began his professional career teaching chemistry and physics at high schools in Washington and Oregon from 1978 to 1990. While at Dallas, Oregon, he coached the school’s basketball team to a state championship in 1987. Tolbert served as director of Enrollment Development at Simpson College & Graduate School in Redding, California, from 1991 to 1999. He also served as its interim vice president of enrollment services/marketing and director of the student support center for 18 months until June 2000. This session will highlight the activities of Edinboro University’s Meadville Access Center after one year of operation and will address the collaborative efforts of Edinboro University and several area tool and die industry representatives in creating a state-of-the-art instructional center to serve the educational needs of the region’s precision industries.
