Bloomsburg State College JUNIOR CHERYL SEDLAK 1982 SOFTBALL Head Coach Outlook A strong nucleus of 10 veterans, including last year's top 5 hitters, will give the Bloomsburg State College softball team reason to believe that its success from a year ago will continue in 1982. While posting a 23-9 record and finishing 9th in the AIAW Division Ill national tourney in 1981 , the Huskies rolled to the school 's best season ever behind strong hitting and it appears that this season will be no different. Laurie Snyder, BSC's leading hitter in 1981 with a .395 average returns along with fellow sophomores Deb Long (.365) and Anne Schmidt (.323) as well as juniors Sue Hicks (.375) and Cheryl Sedlak (.306) to lead an offensive attack that averaged six runs per game a year ago . To balance the offensive strength , all indications are that the team will be tough defensively and have an improved mound staff. Veterans Carolyn Harley and Long will patrol leftfield and centerfield respectively and along with either newcomer Deb Schneiderhan or upperclassmen Mary Hassenplug or Hicks in rightfield, " should make the outfield defensively sound ." The addition of freshman Brenda Long's strong arm to the mound staff will be a plus for the Huskies. Long joins standout pitcher Tina Souders, who had a fine 14-2 mark last season . JAN HUTCHINSON, a member of the Health, Physical Education and Athletics staff at BSC since January 1978, is in her fifth year as head softball coach . She is also the Husky field hockey coach . A native of Newton, NJ, Mrs. Hutchinson received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1971 from East Stroudsburg State College and her Master of Education degree in Physical Education from the same institution in 1979. Before coming to BSC, Mrs. Hutchinson was on the faculty at Blair Academy, Blairstown , NJ , where she initiated the women 's interscholastic sports program and served as head coach of field hockey, basketball and softball. Her softball coaching record after four seasons at BSC stands at 50-35. Assistant Coach CATHERINE CONSTABLE, is in her third year as assistant coach for the BSC softball squad . Ms. Constable is a graduate of BSC, receiving her B.S. in speech pathology in December 1975 and her M.Ed . in 1976. While attending BSC , Ms. Constable was a member of the field hockey and basketball teams . Sophomore Kathy Behan will be at one corner of the infield holding down the starting spot at third base along side of Schmidt , the Huskies' shortstop . Sedlak will complete the double play combination at second base, while first base will be a battle between Long , Snyder, and freshmen Brenda Long and Denise Veronick. Sophomores Denise Henderson, Laurie Snyder and Mary Hassenplug will make up the catching crew. 1982 Roster No. 9 7 10 5 16 12 24 11 4 6 13 17 15 22 23 SOPHOMORE ANNE SCHMIDT Name Alexander, Deborah Behan, Kathleen Har ey, Carolyn Hassenplug, Mary Henderson, Denise Hicks, Susan Long, Brenda Long, Deborah Minskey, Debra Schmidt, Anne Schneiderhan , Debra Sedlak, Cheryl Snyder, Laurie Souders, Tina Veronlck, Denise Poe. 2B 3B LF C,OF C OF P,1B OF,1B 2B ss OF 2B,SS C,1B p 1B ClaH Soph.
