Warren, Pennsylvania 16365 CRIMINAL; JUSTICE CERTIFICAfE PROGRAM CAREER OPPORTUNITIES There are increasing federal, state and local requirements for law enforcement per­ sonnel to up-grade their education. Furthermore, the field of Criminal Justice has taken on new aspects as well as new challenges so that today it encompasses many areas relating to law enforcement. Currently, Criminal Justice must deal with the foundations of law, the nature of crime and the work of policeman, lawyers, courts and prisons. In addition, cor­ rectional programs, policy formation, more effective crime control and improvement of the criminal justice system must be reviewed. Therefore, the person who deals in Criminal Justice today must have a broader, more liberal orientation and understanding of the many com­ ponents of the discipline. The emphasis upon Criminal Justice in this program is predicated upon an introductory sequence of courses in general education which widens the over-all perspective of the person dealing with the public. meet the practical and vocational needs of the working person who desires to improve his pro­ fessional background and/or his chances for promotion while on the job. The program has particular advantages for students within the Warren area and is de­ signed to provide excellent training for a rea­ sonable cost. Students within commuting dis­ tance of Warren will be able to commute to classes, thereby eliminating residential costs. Those from out of the area, can obtain room and board in Warren to meet their needs. The program is designed so that persons can attend full-time, or on a part-time basis by those who are now employed and wish to pur­ sue the Certificate while they work. In addition, stu­ dents have an opportunity to choose electives. Particular attention is given to the assumption of deviant identities, the formation of deviant subcultures and the creation of secondary deviance. Rather than focusing upon particular forms of deviant behavior, a framework is provided with which any form of deviance may be studied. This course consists of the scientific aspects of criminal investigation. Major em­ phasis will focus on the science of finger­ printing and the examination of evidence. Some examination of advanced police science labora­ tory techniques such as examining firearms, poisons, hairs, fibers will be included. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS 1.
