He broke the Edinboro record for coaching victories last year. Walcavich has guided the Scots to the PSAC Tournament the last four years and seven times overall. In addition, the Scots have reached the NCAA Division II Playoffs three times. Edinboro has won twenty-or-more games five times under Walcavich, including a 26-8 finish in 1997-98, the most wins in school history. Overall, Walcavich has a record of 339-164 and is in his 18th season as a head coach. Allegheny head coach Phil Nass has enjoyed great success, as well, now in his tenth campaign. He has a 159111 record. Ness has led the Gators to back-to-back NCAA Division Ill playoff appearances. SCOUTING THE scm Edinboro brings a record of 2-1 into the contest, having won the championship of the Wendy's Classic. After playing more of a defensive brand of ball in '98-99, permitting just 69.5 ppg., the Scots are a more up-tempo team, averaging 87.3 ppg. while giving up 77 .3 ppg. If tonight's contest is anything like Monday's Edinboro-Mercyhurst affair, the fans are in for a real treat. That contest saw the two teams battle into double overtime before Mercyhurst handed the Baro its first loss by a 90-86 count. Allegheny, meanwhile, returns to the hardwood for the first time since last saturday, when the Gators dropped an 8478 decision to Westminster in the championship game of the DAD's Holiday Classic. This is the first meeting between the two schools in team years, with Edinboro capturing a 100-99 overtime decision against the Gators in 1989-90. Allegheny holds a 14-11 edge in the all-time series which first began in 1930-31. EDINBORO UNMRSDY "Bators" Record: 2-2 impressively, despite facing constant size disadvantages, Edinboro has outrebounded its first three foes by wide margins ... the guard tandem of Adam Kaufman and Jean Paul rates as highly as any one in the PSAC. Kaufman, a 5'11" junior, is the consummate floor general. While averaging 12.3 ppg., he has handed out 27 assists ith just 5 turnovers. He has made 9 of 18 three-pointers. Paul, meanwhile, a 6'4" sixth-year senior with a sweet jumper. He comes off careerhighs of 26 points and 13 rebounds at Mercyhurst, boosting his averages to 18.7 and 7.3, respectively ... fans will surely like what they see of Kennv Tata. The sophomore is undersized at 6'4" for a power forward, but he doesn't play like it. The transfer from New Mexico JC has already had two double-doubles, includ-. ing 27 points and 16 boards at Mercyhurst. He leads the Scots in scoring (23.0 ppg.), rebounds (12.0 rpg.) ana steals (8). Tate was the MVP of the Wendy's Classic ... another iuco transfer is 6'4" junior Keith Allen. After averaging 25.1 points at Community College or Beaver Counfy to ear'n All-American honors, Allen is finding the going more difficult at the Division II level, but he still comes in at 10.3 ppg. and 7.0 rpg ... freshman Jason Roseto opens at center. At 6'10", ,255 lbs., he provides a presence in the middle. He already owns 11 blocked shots in addition to averages of 5.7 ppg. and 4. 7 rpg. Roseto played his high school ball at Harbor Creek ... another local product, McDowell's Rob Schodl, paces the bench brigade. Now the two will renew acquaintances for the first time.
