Objectives of the Course: Upon completion of the course, students should be able to: 1) Prepare financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. 2) Analyze the effects of complex business transactions on the elements of the financial statements, primarily involving assets and the related expenses and revenues. 3) Apply accounting principles, concepts, theory and assumptions to measure, record and disclose financial data in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. 4) Analyze the information presented on financial statements. C. Catalog Description: In-depth treatment of basic accounting principles and concepts. A preparation for advanced courses in accounting and for the theory and practice sections of the uniform CPA examination. D. Outline of the Course: 1. Review of the accounting process 2. Rationale for the Course: The role of accounting in business is to help interested parties (internal and external) to make business decisions. Financial accounting generates some of the key documents, including profit and loss account showing the method of business traded for a specific period and the balance sheet which provides a statement showing mode of trade in business for a specific period.
