During nearly 15 years at BU, Herring led the university division devoted to students' lives outside of the classroom. Student Affairs includes admissions, career development, student standards, STUDENT activities AND RESIDENCE LIFE, STUDENT HEALTH AND COUNSELING, INTERCOLLEGIATE athletics and intramural sports and drug and alcohol intervention programs. He oversaw auxiliary enterprises, including Kehr Union, the University Store, the Child Center, the Student Recreation Center and dining services. He also directed university relations, encompassing alumni development and government relations, for five years. affairs, communications, "Dr. Herring's dedication to each student's experiences both inside and outside the in every decision he made and every project he led," said bu President David Soltz. Proposed by art professor (and as/id husky trainerJ Ceorste J. Keller as the ideal mascot because of its noble Qualities. An actual husky was donated by Keller and made his first appearance at a Pep rally on October 1 3. Named Roonso after a combination of maroon and sold, our first mascot proudly sensed in his role, sportins a blanket adorned in the schools colors. A total of five doss served in the role of official mascot from 1 933 until 958, three of them with the name of Roonso. It was eventually decided that the cost of keepins an actual doe was too sreat, but since the sct]ool still needed an actual representation of the mascot to promote spirit at athletic events a costume was designed in 1 979 for a student to personify the husky. 1 been used since that time, the latest debuting in 2005.
