Lock Haven State College Mock to become next president of the SCC "Hopefully we can get some definite action," were the words of President Joe Euculano, right after he banged the gavel, calling Monday night's recessed S.C.C. meeting back to order. With the apparent option to authorize an executive reelection or to hold a special October cited as big month for Receiving The year-old campus Receiving Hotiine, which serves this campus and those students who live off campus, is still receiving calls and in full swing with its operation. "We've been having trouble getting volunteers to work on the Hot Line," explained Leslie Nisson, head of the operation. She added, "We have information available on matters concerning birth control, abortion, community services, and any information on campus happenings such as movies, dances, etc." Nisson also stated that the Hot Line is strictly confidential and has no ties with law enforcement or any other branch of the college. At present a professor k giving training sessions for people interested in volunteering to be a call receiver. This training is not necessary, but it is helpful in learning to be a worker for the Hot Line. Calls have been coming in since Receiving's start, with October cited as the "biggest month." The main reason for the senate's witnessed paralysis was a formal letter of resignation that Euculano had eariier received from Nawrocki. At the outset of the deliberation, several senators expressed the wishes of their constituents by relating that most people they consulted believed the first vice-president-elect should move up to the position of president-elect. Eariy in the meeting, Euculano hesitantiy mentioned that he received Joe Nawrocki's formal resignation the night before, following the recess from Monday's emergency meeting. The English Department is offering an Applied Journalism course in the preparation and presentation of TV programming. Because the course will involve actual programming, plans are being made for telecasting the programs over cable TV into the community. Dr. William Reich, who will be instructing the Applied Journalism course, notes that the class will be given a brief introduction to video and then begin organizing programming Dr. Reich envisions as many as 15 weekly broadcasts being presented next semester. The programs will be telecast on the college leased cable channel (Susquehanna Valley Cable Co. channel 10) and perhaps distributed to other local cable companies. A potential audience of 5,000 families has been estimated. Students who enroll in the Applied Journalism class will have a chance to both perform interviews and assist in running TV operations. The class will make all decisions concerning what programming is presented, although only videotaped material will be used. Dr. Reich points out that the opportunity provided by the Applied Journalism class will prove helpful to those seeking media employment. He looks forward to the idea of a permanent station as something beneficial to college and community alike. Wed., Nov. 19, 1975 EAGLE EYE page! Todoy's idiforial Games people play After two nights of deliberation concerning the vacancy of president-elect, the senate has been left with the question what constitutes a resignation? To those who attended the two night session it appears that they were concerning themselves with a situation that didn't exist an exercise in futility. Although a public resignation was made, copies of which were given to those present, this resignation was not bureaucratically acceptable - it had not passed through "the proper *nannels." Still the second night's debate continued with the assumption that there were still valid grounds to proceed. Not iinfii ^ P Chief-Executive was questioned did the ie aware that an "acceptable" resignation -nitted. ,everal requests did the president read the resignation that stipulated Dec. 3, as the When the senate recessed Monday night they all felt they needed to consult the students they represented and be prepared to reach a decision Tuesday night. They felt it was in the constitutional powers to make that decision. With the combination of the dated resignation and the president's desire to hold the resignation until tonight's meeting any action taken by the Senate would be meaningless and invalid. We feel that students working together as a student government could provide a channel for student expression but it appears that the views expressed bv the students during ball meetings were neither warranted or would they be heard. How many times can a student gov't, cry wolf? [i.e. budget crisis or presidential precedent] How many more times will the student body support a gov't, either financially or philosophically that will disregard the feelings of the student? Perhaps games are fine for athletic fields or locker rooms but not playable in the Senate. It's hard to work together when an individual will rob you of two evenings time to play the game of representing the people^t^in fact it was nothing more than an exercise in futility. There are times when decisions must be made by individuals who are fully aware of the situation. But no one can make a decision when necessary info, is willfully witheld. Let's stop playing games and play gov't. Leffer fo fhe editor To the Editor: Some readers will probably find this letter odd and others will probably think that it is rather appropriate. I wish to congratulate the coaching staff and the football team for a fine job on Saturday. Their 26-16 victory over California proved to me that the Eagles could do it! It takes a great deal more pride, heart and guts for a team to win the last game of a season after losing eight straight, than it takes for a team to go undefeated. Isn't that what it's all about? Any contributions or questions related to Iraternities or sororities should be submitted to Student Publications, PUB Ground Floor. Kappa Delta Rho, this week's featured fraternity, had its origins nationally at Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont. The year was 1905, and after several decades of campus growth with no Greek organizations, ten men founded a new fraternity and called it Kappa Delta Rho. Originally local, KDR spread in 1913 to Cornell University where an interested group of students founded the Beta Chapter. Since that time, the fraternity has expanded until there are presently 24 active chapters located at various colleges and universities throughout the nation. Dappa Delta Rho, here at Lock Haven, was originally a local fraternity, echoing its nat"onal beginnings. This local group was called Epsilon Omega Alpha, but on April 26, 1958 the Alpha Alpha chapter was initiated as a national chapter of Kappa Delta Rho. KDR has the distinction of being the first fraternal organization to establish its own house here at Lock Haven. Originally at 428 West Water Street, in January of 1964, the brothers of KDR moved into their present residence at 220 West Main. The past few years have seen much growth and achievement on the part of Kappa Delta Rho. With 33 currently active brothers, the group has won the Interfraternity Council Academic Trophy two years in a row, this year with a 2.78 overall, and were champs in Greek Olympics, intramural touch football, weightlifting, and softball. The executive committee that has been guiding Kappa Delta Rho for the past year consists of Nate Hosley as president, Jim Hoke as Vice President with Treasurer Dan Fox, Secretary Dave Royer and Pledge Trainer George Way. "Greeks Speak" wishes the brothers of Kappa Delta Rho musch success in the future and hopes they will continue to play an active role in the fraternity life here at Lock Haven, The Residence Hall Association article appearing in yesterday's Eagle Eye incorrectly reported the facts about tonight's dorm party at the Sigma Pi house. Russell Hall residents also report that the Sigma Pi house is not being rented and no square dance is planned for day the twenty-seven year old veteran showed all the poise that we once knew him to have. How did Cathy become interested in hockey? "I just decided to go out for the team in high school. I hated it at first." Why did she choose the position of goalie? "I played center-half for two days and decided to play goalie because there is less running. There was a position open as goalie, so I took it. I've played goalie ever since." Cathy has been playing hockey for a total of eight years. How will the Eaglettes do in Regional competition? "This is the first time we were ever in Regionals. The team is good as a whole. The attitudes are good and we have no problems with personality conflicts. We are definitely going to the top!" Although three seniors, one of which is Cathy, are graduating this year, she believes next year's team will be just as strong. "There are good people coming up to fill the positions." In Cathy's opinion the toughest teams the Eaglettes played this year were West Chester and Ursinus, because they were skilled. "Elisabethtown was not a hard team to beat as far as being skilled, but out spirit was hard to get up." 1 asked her how she gets psyched up before a game. "I sleep with my hockey ball," Cathy says. Another thing that helps to lift Cathy's spirit is a favorite sign of hers made by two friends which reads: "Only God saves more than Sherman." The Eaglettes played against a team which had a male player. What about men playing field hockey? "Men don't have enough finesse," Cathy said. "There is more skill involved in women's hockey than men's."
