Largest Class to Graduate May 26 Duane Wilder, treasurer of the National Forge C o m p a n y , W a r r e n , and a member of t h e Governor's Commission on Education, will deliver the main address at the May C o m m e n c e m e n t at 2:30 p . m . This year's g r a d u a t i n g class is the largest in t h e history of the college, the 152 students being enrolled in these c u r r i c u l u m s : 54 in secondary education, 5 3 in elementary education and 45 in physical education. A n unusual feature this year will be the commissioning of Stanford Shaffer as a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. Shaffer has been training for several years and his commission is con- t i n g e n t on his receiving a bachelor's degree. C a p t . Gale of the U. S. Marines will make t h e commission. Dr. Gerald R . Robinson, dean of instruction, will present the g r a d u a t i n g class to D r . Richard T. Parsons, president, w h o will confer the degrees. T h e final weekend of activities for the 1963 class will begin with the senior luncheon to be held at 12 noon Friday, May 24, at the D u t c h Inn, Mill H a l l . Curriculum Coordinator, Librarian Join Staff Seven persons have been a d d e d at press time to the staff for t h e 1963-64 academic year, t h e dean of instruction's office has announced. Joining the social science d e p a r t m e n t will be Dr. Tao Cheng as an associate professor and Joseph E. Harris as an assistant professor. Dr. Cheng was graduated from the National N i n t h H i g h School in China in 1941 and received a LLB. degree from National Peking University in 1946. Completing the rest of his education in the United States. D r . Cheng earned a master of arts degree in international relations from Temple University in 1961 and a P h D . degree in political science from Columbia University. H e came from Florida Norni.il and Industrial Memorial College in St. Augustine, and will t e i c h political science. master of education degree from Temple University, and a doctor of education degree from the University of Maryland. Presently, he is employed in a similar position at Western Maryland College. Robert Bravard will become an assistant librarian and will head the catalog division of Stevenson Library. H e earned a bachelor of arts degree from W i l m i n g t o n College, Ohio, and a master of science in library science from Syracuse U n i v e r sity. Irene Hash, 1963 editor, explained that this year's book initiates a non-conventional approach in its organization which carries a progress theme throughout the book. This theme is g e a r e d around t h e progress in t h e student, and i n the building construction o n campus. Several other new features have been incorporated t o carry a news-picture magazine design and a pictorial essay trend. T h e Praeco t h a t will be distributed n e x t week will include events u p t o March 1, Miss H a s h said. E v e r y t h i n g happening after this date until a n d including graduation will appear in a supplement t o the main portion of the book. This supplement will be m.ailed d u r i n g t h e s u m m e r t o students w h o will n o t be on campus in September if they sign a mailing list in the publications office before classes end, she said. Student Council Questions Use of ID Cards; Hears Library Rules The S t u d e n t Co-operative Council voted at its last official meeting of t h e school year t o recommend t o D r . Richard T . Parsons t h a t the s t u d e n t identification cards be used solely for identification purposes and n o t for a n y other reasons. T h i s recommendation came as a result of questioning b y some of t h e council members on t h e removal of I D cards from s t u dents for m i n o r disciplinary reasons. The council stated a case of such action on t h e part of some administrators and v o t e d its disapproval. Pres. D o n C h a r l t o n announced t h a t Rick Clifton again would head the c o n s t i t u t i o n committee and that Bob S t r a u s s w o u l d chairman t h e freshman customs committee.
