Women's Varsity Program Basketball and Field Hockey were varsity sports for women at Bloomsburg State College since the early sixties. In 1972, tennis and swimming were added as varsity sports. Because of the implications of the Federal Law Title IX, women interested in golf and track and field may work out with the established men's teams. Scheduling of meets and matches will occur in these sports when the women indicate a responsible desire for competition. During the 1976-77 school term, it is anticipated that lacrosse and softball will be added to the established varsity sports for women. Both of these sports will be coached by women in the spring. Women's athletics at Bloomsburg State College is ever increasing and establishing better programs. Bloom~burg st ate College does not cliscrl.minate on the basis o:f sex, race, color, creed, age, or handicap as required by Title IX o:f the Education Amendments o:f 1972 and by other legislation. FIELD HOCKEY Bloomsburg Field Hockey team will be aiming for sectional as well as regional honors this fall. Sophomores Joan Williams, Tracey Dimmig, and Kathy Hotchkiss, and freshman Donna Santa Maria were selected to the Susquehanna Field Hockey Association 's All-Star team this season . This team represented the association at the Mideast Tournament held at Conestoga Valley High School on November 15-16. Bloomsburg State College will be looking forward to another competitive season , its strongest opponents being Millersville, Lock Haven, and Bucknell. Many outstanding varsity players will be returning to give the team the added experience it needs. ----=-===-=------------. 1975 RESULTS Bloomsburg Bloomsburg Bloomsburg Bloomsburg Bloomsburg Bloomsburg Bloomsburg Bloomsburg Bloomsburg Bloomsburg Bloomsburg 2 0 1 0 2 6 2 0 0 2 2 Kutztown . . . . . . . . . . . . . . BASKETBALL The phrase " performing with excellence" typifies the calibre of competition evident in Bloomsburg basketball during the past few years. The women 's team has grown steadily and has proven to be a pacesetter in establishing several notable firsts in Bloomsburg State College athletic history-first undefeated season by a women ·s varsity team, 1973-74; first Bloomsburg State College team ever selected to participate in a EAIA W, (Eastern Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women) regional tournament, 1974-75; and as a result of participation in the 1975-76 regional tourney, this team was first in presenting Bloomsburg State College with a trophy for female athletic excellence. The latter of these events was a productive compliment to regular season play in which the women Huskies finished 11-2; the two losses involved a total of only five points. Bloomsburg State College placed fourth in post-season play, downing Temple University and later being edged out by eventual tourney victor, Fitchburg State of Massachusetts. 1976-77 Basketball Schedule Tues .,Dec. 7 Wed., Jan. 19 Sat., Jan. 22 Thurs . , Jan. 27 Man ., Jan. 31 Thurs., Feb. 3 Sot., Feb. 5 Tues., Feb . 8 Fri. , Feb . 11 Tues., Feb. 15 Thurs ., Feb. 17 Mon ., Feb. 21 Wed. , Feb . 23 MANS Fl ELD (Scrimmage) . . . . . . . . . . . Team members representing Bloomsburg State College were Jan Crossmore, Carla de Vries, Mollie Mandell, Tina O'Hara, Pat Seither, and Sue White. This was the first time Bloomsburg State College qualified divers :o participate in a championship meet. Both Sue White and Pat Seither competed in the one meter and 1hree meter diving events. The 200-yard medley relay qualified for the championship finals and put Bloomsburg State College on the score board. This was a first in the history of Bloomsburg State College swimming. Tina O'Hara won individual honors at the Clarion Invitational Swim Meet by placing second in the l 00-yard backstroke and third in the SO-yard event. The team faced a highly competitive dual meet schedule this past season. All new team records were established as well as many new pool records.
